I have to say, in the first anime is darker cause they gave more episodes, you get even more attach to Nina

I am of the opinion of startion on 03', and then if you absolutely only want to watch one version no more, switch from FMA '03 Episode 25 to FMA:B Episode 10 it is as good a transition and you get all the longer and more heartwrenching (even Liore is darker in '03) backstory and at least get to hear Bratja a couple times

yea i think the original adaptation is darker in general, personally I think that FMAB is a good balance of darkness and humor but I can see why people prefer the tone of the first adaptation. Ive seen both versions when i thought they were different stories lol and i liked both.
