Nice new haircut Lola. Looks fire!

There was a time in my teenage years when I thought Death Note was the best anime of all time. Since then I've watched more anime and changed my mind, but still I always remembered Death Note as being good. Rewatching it now, I was a little disappointed with the quality. I still think it's a good anime at its core, but it has a lot of overlooked details that bother me

Give me actually 2 shonen manga better written than Death Note and I will believe it. L is easily one of the best written characters in shonen (if not the best )

Just a couple of notes: Near is not a literal child, but he acts younger than he is. He was 13 pre timeskip, so he is about 18 now, around the same age Light was when L died. Near and Mellow inherited different aspects of L (e.g. Near's way of sitting and thinking, Mellow's love of sweets and risk taking). Their aliases show this, and are both somewhat ironic, Near is emotionally distant, whereas Mellow is very emotional. A few names/characters worth keeping an eye for: - Mikami: X-Kira - Aizawa: Member of the task force who suspects Light. - Takada: Light's new girlfriend.

Also, a fun fact: originally Near was supposed to have Mello's design and vice-versa, but the manga editor wrote the wrong names accompanying the designs and the switched designs were kept :p And another interesting contrast is how Near is more ethical & has L's desire for justice, shown by his unwillingness to assassinate Light & Mikami, while Mello is more morally grey like L. Hell, I'd say Mello's actually closer to Light in terms of morals, considering how he murders a dozen innocent SPK members in episode 28 just to fuck with Near.

Your theories about Misa and the christmas setting, which you expressed in this episode, were all so good. 😅

Love Lola's curls!! Great commentary!!!!!

Miss Takada was shocked at the honor of getting chosen as the new Kira. Not that she will have to kill people.

I think Near does treat catching Kira as a game. That is foreshadowed in the first scene he is in, when he and Mellow are informed of L's death Near says "if you can't beat the game you are nothing but a loser". We also know he is a bit childish because of how he plays with toys despite being 18 post timeskip (he was 13 when L died). I think the only people who are trying to catch Kira and don't treat it as a game are the members of the Japanese task force, such as Aizawa.

The dinner was an excuse for Takada to see how things were going between Misa and Light, and she founds out that Misa doesn't know that Light is Kira. With that, Takada now knows that Misa is not a competition and that Light said is actually true. Takada probably was kinda suspusios, she knows that Misa and Light aer together so it's not weird to thing that Light is using her.

the members of SKP also treat seriously
