lol i literally was like 'let's check to see if they updated' and it was just now, kinda funny and now let's enjoy^^

Melkor

Poor Light he has to protect Misa from getting caught for the rest of his life now. Lmao 😂

Melkor

REM is a SHE.

Andy

Light's reaction from being called L's friend was genuine although the connection between his feelings from that and his feeling from the simplicity of the solution (having Rem kill L) is up for debate.

Light: "Friend? What's that, can I kill it?"

Rem is actually a female shinigami, it's not really brought up much though. The voice actor has a very deep voice but is a woman. There's also a Death Note musical which explores Rem and Misa's relationship and there are some great songs but I wouldn't look it up until you finish the show :)

Emori

Light has no clue what he just got himself into LMAOOO

Jason Parker

If you like the dynamic between Light and L then you should check out a show called Kaguya-sama: Love is War. Imagine if Death Note was a romantic comedy lol

Thamor

L & Light are romance partners of this show. They do word plays every episode =)

tom

Again, Rem is female. I'm surprised you can't tell from the voice and design

Jacob

I bet Ryuk finds a way to convince Rem not to kill L. If she really did it, that would be the end of his fun.

Calling back to the discussion some of us were having on the previous episode, I think that this episode fleshes out the character of Misa and how she might avoid becoming a trope character. Whilst she is certainly fitting a 'Manic Pixie Dream Girl in love with the protagonist' archetype, this episode was clever in subverting a key component to Misa's adoration of Light: her devotion and naivety actively thwarts his progress. Take for instance her running up to him in the middle the street with other people present; rather than it bringing emotional catharsis ("ah, my tool is back to praise me..."), it brings danger and complication. From a thematic standpoint I think it's very interesting to see how Misa, a person who loves others deeply and cares about their well-being, is now partners with Light, the very antithesis of those attributes. What could have been a run-of-the mill 'aid the male protagonist' character instead has the potential to create real complexity both to the plot as well as to Misa herself.
