first aot it exporting, if it all goes well it should be up in an hour or so. second we're filming death note tomorrow and a lot of people were saying that the dub is better so we're leaving the choice to you

I prefer the dub but you should know since you often watch with subtitles on, the English subtitles often don't match what the dub VA is saying which can be very distracting.

I've seen both. It really doesn't matter they both are amazing. Sub matches their voices more in my opinion. Dub has some better executed scenes though. So pretty much whatever you decide it will be very good.

The dub is extremely good and it’ll be easier to understand I believe. I mean of course if it’s sub then I won’t mind but I do think the dub voices, especially for one of the characters, sounds great! Either way they’ll both provide good experiences

That's kind of how I feel. I personally am more familiar with it in English Dub. But I really have no major preference. So I'll just leave it for the others. That said, I really love the chip scene in English. Haha

Mix it up. Be different, Why not?. Death Note has pretty good English actors, and sure translations can get awkward, but it still sells the story and builds engagement

The dub is horrendous, except for Yu Yu Hakusho or Full Metal Alchemist, dubbed anime are very wooden and never deliver proper emotion or subtly. It almost always sounds like someone reading off a piece of paper. So yeah go with the Sub

I really just went through several scenes: The main characters work very well in both. Sometimes I find the English version better, sometimes the Japanese version. With the dub, however, I noticed that the dubbing actors for the female side characters don't really match the original dubbing. Another thing in favour of the sub: the names. No series is more about names than this one, and reading them makes them easier to remember. Moreover, characters from abroad also appear in the series. Here I find it pleasant to hear an accent or simply the foreign language. In addition, as a reaction viewer, you can also read what was said in the scene, if you are talking about something. Edit: Forget everything I said. The chip scene in English is so much more awesome :D

Selfishly, I'm kinda saddened to see subs winning. I only watch your BCS reactions, typically on a second screen while I work - something I can't do with a subbed show. But again, I realize that's my problem. I'll just have to set aside a dedicated time to watch.

dub all the way! for context i highly prefer AOT in japanese, but death note, the voices are sooooo iconic in the english dub. like BRUH 😭 but either way is fine - choosing based on the poll will make the most people pleased :) hope you girls enjoy the show!

I vote sub even though I don't mind dub usually. But I tend to prefer Japanese audio if the setting is set in Japan. It just feels more natural and immersive.

It honestly depends on how you guys watch it, if you guys wanna talk and make comments while watching the show, then sub is preferred. That way you don't miss any important details the characters are saying without subtitles. With subtitles, even if you guys are talking and making comments, you can read what's on the screen and not miss details.

Unfortunate that sub is winning. This is the only anime that I prefer the dub. Misa's Japanese voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me, and L's voice is so good in english. Ryuk and Light are great in english as well. I alsoI feel like you'll miss less info if you watch the dub.

I'd push for Dub, simply because imo, "It's good enough," and it seems like media is waaaaaay more easier for you guys to process when you don't have to read every line. Death Note is extremely plot-driven. If you missed something because the subtitles were going too fast, this is going to get confusing, real quick.

Look at it this way: unless you speak Japanese, the dub is better. When there's no real difference in quality go with the more native language. The voice actors for the main characters are superb in the dub.

Never watch dubbed anime. The original is always better. A lot of characters are voiced by some of the best Japanese voice actors. (also L's english voice is really weird)

No matter what one says, unless someone makes a legitimate case for their preference and their audience is open to changing their minds, saying which version is better serves no purpose. As for Sub difficulties when reading, its a good point, but one could also make the case that its and opportunity to grow as English readers.

At first i voted sub thinking of any other anime, but then i remember L's and Light's voice so clearly in dub after watching it so many times. For this Anime i would suggest to watch in Dub, for any other Anime i would say Sub.

Unlike AoT, I believe Death Note has a good dub. I'd say do whichever you prefer for this one and don't leave it totally up to us since you can't really go wrong either way. I think some purists will choose sub no matter what, but sometimes the dub is worth it if it's good and it's easier for you.

Dub people are always funny as hell. They always say "Dubs are usually bad but this one is actually good!" about every damn show. As someone that has watched sub+dub for quite a lot of shows at this point, dub voice actors are like 80% of the time worse than the sub ones, even in the shows that supposedly are "good dubs".

It's the exact opposite of elitist. If I were elitist I wouldn't watch dubs at all. I kept seeing people say "The dub is actually really good! It's better than the sub" then you watch it, and most of the characters are worse, with the voice acting being way more one dimensional than the original. How is that elitist? Sub is great for these two as they fully get into the show in their reactions, unlike most reactors. The sub gives them 100% immersion as that is how the director wanted it and not an American interpretation.

"Immersion" is a person by person basis, there no point throwing out arbitrary numbers. How are hearing and understanding the words less immersive anyway? Because with DN, you're reading a lot of dialogue so it can be difficult to follow along. And as for "what the director wanted", I can almost guarantee they've never said anything like that lol. Forget the poll honestly lol. If there was ever a time YOU guys wanted to watch an anime dubbed, this show and a couple others are the perfect ones to do it with. The "Sub is always better/Sub ONLY" biased anime crowd will always vote that way regardless of the Dub or how great the quality is. So yeah, the poll is kinda pointless lol. If anything try both :)

The dub is good, one of the better ones, and this from someone that always prefers the subs in all my anime. BUT the acting in this one is too good on the Japanese side. It's a classic to be seen first in the original language, there is no comparison, Mamoru Miyano delivers one of the most iconic performances of one of the most iconic characters in all the history of anime.

Dub is decent, but the voice acting in the sub is just 10/10 perfect. Again though, its a decent dub. Just simply not as good and riveting as the sub. Its not FMAB where the dub easily outshines the sub (if you guys ever watch it, it has to be dub! Legitimately the best dub to ever exist. Its far better than sub.) If you’re a native English speaker, you can understand the show a lot more with dub because you can focus on tone of voice, and other details shown in the scenes themselves. You also can’t really miss any of the dialogue

I understand that the dub is really good, but the sub is just perfect. As someone who watched both versions i can say that the sub is far superior. Every show should be watched in its original language, sometimes the dub can be really good but it will never be better than the original.

SUB for two reasons It's better voice actors and you'll be able to speak throughout the show while watching the subtitles. The second one is the most important one for me, Death note is not a show you wanna miss subtitles on.

What's important is leaving subtitles on either way. But you both know that already. We like to hear your commentary during the shows, and you don't want to miss important dialogue. (I liked the dub *very* much. Same with AOT. I don't know Japanese - like the huge bulk of non-Japanese anime fans - and I want to enjoy the art. Unless the dub is bad, I don't understand wanting to watch it with subtitles if you're watching on your own. But like I said, it's important for you both to use subtitles being you're a reaction channel and you don't want to miss anything.)
