Even though it's "just business" I think on Chuck's part it was a shitty and unnecessary thing to do. He could've just left it up to Howard and let whatever was gonna happen, happen. Instead he went out of his way and risked his own health just to secure Mesa Verde. Would he have done the same for a client that had nothing to do with Jimmy/Kim? I doubt it... I think he would've stayed home and let the other lawyers deal with it. He definitely was "sticking the knife in".

Theres a ton of subtext and foreshadowing in this episode. Chuck says "he'd do the same" to Jimmy regarding staying late with him. But does it also mean he'd do the "actual" same without realizing it. Would Chuck go out of his way to tear down Jimmy? Chuck did it the legal way while Jimmy did it the illegal way but one could argue their hearts were in the same place. Also Mike being told by Kaylee "you need a better teacher". Gus? Maybe?

can we get episode 9 extra early ? :D Dying to see that reaction

Do you think Chuck would've had the strength to pitch to Mesa Verde if he didn't learn Kim and Jimmy were teaming up, but only heard that Kim took them ? I think the main motivation was anger at Jimmy getting the fruits of the labor without being a straight edge lawyer

Lola: People are dumb by nature. Milena: I'm not dumb. Lola: You are! loll you girls are funny Also, it makes sense. After all, Mesa Verde doesn't actually owe anything to Kim, and they gotta do what they think is best for their own business. It's not personal. But as a viewer, seeing Kim miss out sucks for sure.. I'm watching the show for the first time alongside you guys, so I'm equally reactive to these things lol.

I totally agree with you. But even if he himself made it personal, in the end, what reasons we have behind our motivations is nobody's business but our own, don't you think? When it came to getting Mesa Verde itself, he did everything fairly. He simply made a better pitch. Jimmy, also sank himself to Chuck's level of spitefulness, however in Jimmy's case, he was playing dirty and potentially compromised Chuck's entire reputation. So, while both parties acted in a petty manner you could say, Chuck comes out on top in my opinion, regardless of his motivations.

Whatever gets you out of bed in the morning, in my opinion. If anger was the driving force behind Chuck's ruthless pitch, then so be it. I don't think that's anybody else's business. Because the pitch itself and getting Mesa Verde was entirely fair and square. Jimmy however sank especially low by actually messing with the documents, and potentially compromising Chuck's whole career.

It’s sad though the lengths Chuck will go to stick it to Jimmy even going after Kim’s client. He’ll risk anything not with a motivation to get better like Lola wishes for him but just to get back at Jimmy.
