I think Zaheer is a really compelling antagonist, but unfortunately his politics are like kindergarten Anarchy lol which I guess isn't too bad for a Nickelodeon show but stillll

this is one of those episodes everyone whos seen tlok waits for reactors to get to! there’s always a split second between when zaheer starts airbending and the air actually starts leaving the queen’s lungs when reactors put together what’s happening and their jaw drops. so fun to watch lol. the rest of the season is just as insane as this episode so buckle in!

The Dai Li have the worst luck. They're supposed to be skilled fighters, but they keep getting made to look like chumps because all their fights are against world class benders.

I think this is especially dark because air benders are known for being peaceful and pacifistic, so seeing air bending being used to kill someone like this is shocking (or - to abide by the rules of this comment section - breathtaking)

it's so interesting that you brought up the possibility of Zaheer valuing survival of the fittest because that concept is the exact opposite of what the airbending avatar Yangchen told Aang: "all life is sacred." Zaheer clearly is exactly opposite of the airbenders' philosophy on pacifism, so it honestly makes sense that he would also subscribe to that survival of the fittest idea even if it's never explicitly stated

It's fitting though, since airbending is routed in the concept of freedom. Makes sense for an airbending villain to take that to the extreme.

And I feel like the Air Nomad's society being based on freedom is only possible because their culture shared that exact moral thread to value life because it's sacred. Most cultures and many people in general don't share the same values so complete freedom will always lead to survival of the fittest.

The only other person we’ve ever seen single-handedly take down the walls was Iroh during sozin’s comet. That’s the biggest reason why I consider Gazan to be the strongest of the Red Lotus.
