Omg thanks a lot was refreshing for this to pop up XD After discussion thoughts : 1) Frieda Reiss was not a dumb titan she just had less combat experience as a titan so she couldn't win against Grisha who was also a smart titan as he hurt himself to transform the same way smart titans do... 2) Jean was 6th in class and the boy was so bummed out in season 1 that his ranking was below eren. It was like Mikasa, Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, Eren and then Jean so he is definitely very capable and I love his low blows towards eren.

The show will answer everything. But the amount of speculation comes from this show is unrealistically high. Also Rod broke his back when Historia slammed him, you can hear the crack sound and his reaction holding his back, that is why you see the spine forming first and he could not turn properly.

To clarify a bit the confusion about Grisha being a smart titan or not without spoilers, think about how he turned in front of the Reiss family : he cut himself with a knife not with a syringe, even Rod Reiss said Grisha was a man with the power of a titan. Same for frieda she was not a dumb titan, she consummed her uncle Uri and turned in front of Grisha thanks to the hand's biting

This episode reveals almost nothing, has almost no action, no cliff hanger and is still such an amazing episode really a testament to the writers chops. Now buckle the fuck up the Erwin hype train is about to leave the station.

You should re-watch the scene where Grisha attacks the Reiss family. As others have pointed out, Frieda had just consumed her uncle so she was a smart Titan.

oh yeah we know she was a smart titan when she was fighting grisha, we were talking about what we've seen of them in the show, like we've seen her become a dumb titan and then eat her uncle, and we've never seen grisha as a dumb one 😊

He yearns for freedom because he was born into this world. "He is already special because he is born into this world" - Carla. Carla unknowingly taught her son to be a "freedom fighter". Commandant Shadis giving the reins to Erwin also ties in perfectly with Erwin's speech in No Regrets OVA. "All the treasure, possessions and noble ideals will go down the drain if tomorrow Titans were to attack this world within the walls. Future of humanity depends on the survival of the Survey Corps." Shadis saw Grisha was special but also he saw Erwin. *DO NOT $POIL ANYTHING ABOUT ERWIN* This is just a drawn out relation between dialogues
