"I am the one who knocks" - one of the classic, most memorable lines of the show. There's a few other great ones which you'll also here in future episodes.

That place Skylar flipped the coin was a spot in the US where all 4 of those states boarders meet so you can be standing in 4 states at the same time

You are now witnessing a man whose ego and pride is directly fueling his selfish tendencies. Walt has fully convinced himself that everything he does is for the good of others despite how the things he does directly affects the lives of others in a very negative way. The scene with Jesse where he says "it's all about me" is the vocalization that his thought process is purely selfish and doesn't bring others into consideration at all anymore!

and of course - "Someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family" is a great one too.

"I AM the DANGER" iconic.

I loved the analysis. What I found most interesting in the "I am the one who knocks scene", aside from the unbelievable acting, was the Skyler was both right and so wrong. She was right in that Walt, in one way, wants to get caught by Hank at the moment, but it isn't out of weakness or wanting protection. She read his endgame correctly, but can't see that it is really his need for the credit for his product. Walt loves the business, he loves being somebody.....but there are also scenes all throughout the series where "walt the teacher" and his pure love of Chemistry shows up. He is genuinely proud of the science and needs the world to know it is his work.

I think Gus saw that Walt gained Jesse's trust by acting like a mentor to him, so he realized he could do the same.

That scene is one of my favorite pieces of visual storytelling throughout this entire show. There are other sequences without dialog, but this one has such a creative combination of disparate elements that come together in such a unique way to explain a character's inner thought process and how they change their mind. And it's like a puzzle in the audience's head until it becomes crystal clear what just happened. They took a national monument, that people visit for FUN(!), that's never been in the show before... and used it to spontaneously create one of the most ominous sequences of doubt, fear, and resolve that you can imagine. A woman, her baby, a quarter, and a 2ft x 2ft piece of concrete. Absolutely genius storytelling.

Dan

It's also fantastic, though, that he's absolutely right. He figured it out, but communicated it so poorly that he still managed to play into Gus' hands! This show has the best irony played out in story form.

I've been looking forward to this one because I knew you'd appreciate that opening speech as he transforms from red-shirt Walt to blood-shirt Heisenberg. He literally flips his personality like he sheds his layers of clothes, and it's interesting to me that he didn't seem to even be aware of it until he screwed up with Skyler. But he has his moments of coming back, too. He's not all gone :) I love that this show can do something incredible at the beginning of the episode and still blow you away at the end. Can't wait for Ozymandias!
