The thing is, if Meruem was a science experiment, we could at least blame the scientist for creating an impossible situation they couldn't control. A scientist, by nature, is an observer, not a creator, and Meruem's a perfect example of why AI needs to be more regulated than it is; it'll destroy us and itself, eventually. Or worse, continue a cycle of destruction, perpetually. No, Meruem's growth is just a natural force, much like a hurricane. And like a hurricane, it'll have to either die down, or come up with some sort of solution. Without it, I agree, he and the guards will have to die, somehow. Meruem, especially, is much too powerful to just bend a knee to blindly. No one wants to do that, no one sane should do that. It's like these monsters are too powerful, good or evil, to let live. Because I'm sure it's painful for Meruem to just watch all the injustice around him. But at the same time, if we set this precedent of our free will being broken, what dangerous implications are we inviting into our lives? It comes back to how I described this before; an impossible situation...
