glad you enjoyed it. You picked up on that theme of grief, fear, loss, and death pretty quick as there is a bit of behind the scenes backstory there. For context about 4 years prior in 1995 there was a terrorist sarin gas attack in japan caused by a cult. this was a real ugly time for japan that really shook the nation's sense of peace and safety. and affected many peoples live for years on. in fact many shows and other media was changed as to not remind people of what happened. like the series Chouriki Sentai Ohranger (which was adapted into power rangers zeo) was originally intended to be a more dark and serious season was changed into a more light hearted show. In 1999 Kamen Rider Kuuga was intended to revive the kamen rider franchise that hadn't had a tv series since Kamen Rider Black RX in 1989. the creative team also wanted to make a series that could address the trauma japan still felt from the sarin gas attack so they made Godai Yusuke/ Kamen Rider Kuuga to be the ideal hero to face a world that suddenly felt more bleak and dangerous. Kuuga was meant to be a light to those suffering loss and trauma in the aftermath of the sarin gas attack
