I think last ep it said Aura's scales weighs the souls to see who is magically stronger. The one with the weakest will be under control of the other. For 500 yrs Aura had never lost from using the spell and when she met 'Ren for the first time she may not have had the opportunity to us the spell on her and escaped. 'Ren was just playing with her food in this to bait her into using the scales. She straight just used Aura's own spell against her. What a G.O.A.T move.
