Omg you have no idea how hype I am that you're checking out this series. Initial D was one of the very first anime I bought on DVD because I loved it so much. Like individual 3 episode DVDs from Blockbuster bought. It's what got me interested in cars, watching races, taking auto shop in high school, and street racers lol. I'm not ashamed to admit that part of the appeal of one of my exes was that he was a street racer. It's gonna be wild watching with you though cuz I've only ever watched this in dub. And the dub was from that time period when some anime would change names to make them more westernized. They also completely changed the soundtrack for the dub. The original music is considered pretty iconic but the dub changed it from eurobeat to hip-hop. I know it would be considered blasphemy to say this but I prefer the dub music.

Also it's funny you mentioned the movie because it's actually an award winning movie but is pretty much universally disliked by the fans, myself included, due to how much was changed in it. But something cool is that they're making a new live action adaptation and it was recently announced that Sung Kang, Han from the Fast and Furious franchise, has been hired to direct it.
