I'm not a manga reader, but I've read a lot of BSD's light novels. The start of the 2nd and 3rd seasons was based on 2 different light novels, and so is the start of S4 (The Untold Truth of The Detective Agency). This one was written in Fukuzawa's POV, so there were a lot of inner monologues/thoughts that helped us understand his intentions better. But I personally think they did a pretty good job changing the narrative in storytelling. So I think the adaptation is great so far. If you haven't read the light novels, I highly recommend checking them out! They're a pretty short read.
