My feelings watching this was the same as Umezawa. You already did enough right now it just isn't your time. You look at Ippo's two toughest opponents up till this point Sendo and Volg they had things that were able to be picked apart. Sendo wasn't good defensively allowing Ippo at some point during their exchanges to knock sendo out. Volg had stamina issues which didn't allow him to go the distance. Not saying Date has more raw talent in strength or even speed, but he is more complete and carries himself like he should. Ippo only strategy was hit him and don't get hit by the corkscrew.
