Buddy Rich Left Hand Comping (Love For Sale Part1) (Patreon)

Let's take a look at Love For Sale's drum part I wrote and study what Buddy is doing on his left hand. On this sheet, I omitted the obvious Ring-dinga-ding on the right hand and boom-boom on the foot. This time it's until the alto solo.

All you see is what the left hand is doing on the chart. However, I added the stickings for the phrases that he plays with both hands.

This sheet would make it easy to find the phrases other than the swing beat. We can learn a lot from analysing which phrases are matching to which parts(horns?Leads?or others?)

I also added the same sheet with some red circles on it. The marked phrases are the written phrases on the original drum sheet. It will be interesting to compare between the original sheet and what Buddy actually played.
