This is something I was gonna do. I was trying to do this but it took about 2 years to actually start. I had copied some of the phrases some years ago but this is my first time to try to transcribe not only solos but also everything.

This chart, Apples aka Gino is a very good chart to transcribe it all. It is short, has many drum solos, and has a lot of phrase that should be played along. Difficult chart to play, but surely great for practicing.

The first part starts with snare solo. A lot of Buddy's rudiments can be seen here. The phrases starts from the end of the 4th row from the bottom is very iconic and kinda hard to keep counting for the first time listeners, but it gets simple to see on the sheet.

On the second part, there are lots of things going on but the hardest part is obviously the 2 bars solo on the 2nd row from the bottom. I can't be sure since there's no way to confirm how it was played, but I think that snare is played by left hand only. The reason why I think so is that there is a video clip from 1966 that Buddy Rich plays Apples on the TV show and although he plays much slower than the album, he does the same phrase as I written on the sheet.

I don't know if it is possible to play that fast other than Buddy but yes, I will try.

Stay tuned for the next parts!

Thanks for reading and keep swingin'!
