OctoPrint On Air #15

The fifteenth episode of a monthly dev log/Q&A session about all things OctoPrint for my Patrons on Patreon which aired live on March 17th 2017. My Patrons can submit questions to answer during the Q&A session via a Google Form before and - usually ;) - also live during the broadcast via the chat. Expect more videos like that roughly on a monthly schedule. If you want to attend the live broadcast and ask questions beforehand or live on air, consider becoming a Patron on Patreon and selecting one of the corresponding perks - that will also help me with continuing to work on OctoPrint full time, which I love doing! OctoPrint's webpage: http://octoprint.org Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/foosel ---- Intro What I have been up to 00:02:35 Vacation & 34c3, Flu of Doom (reprise), backlog clearing 00:04:03 Preparing 1.3.7rc1 00:04:40 Set up a community forum, find it at discourse.octoprint.org 00:10:03 Security announcement: Update to 1.3.6 if you haven't yet! What's next 00:11:06 Release 1.3.7rc1 (Note: already done, 1.3.7rc2 too) 00:11:15 Test OctoPi's nightlies against RPi3+ 00:11:53 Granular permission system 00:12:23 Keep a close eye on the forum Q&A 00:13:50 "Do you ever find yourself wanting to scrap a whole bit of code to rewrite it from scratch instead of fixing an old part that's looking a lot like spaghetti? How often and what do you actually do when that happens?" 00:17:44 "How do you work with usability in the daily work, and how do i as a newbie contribute my thoughts/experiences/feedback with you? Do you hire in UX designers for reviews or have other free human resources you use for UX?" 00:22:32 "What are the plans for finer access control for users?" (Includes a demo of the new permission system) 00:30:47 "What is the time frame for the release of 1.4.0" 00:33:18 "Can you explain a little why [OctoPrint uses both Tornado and Flask], which parts of OctoPrint are using what, and the limitations you have to struggle with because of this?" 00:42:55 "Will you start phasing out the mailing list and G+ forums to get all the support channels in one location?" (Note: Already done) 00:43:57 "Would a useful interim compromise [for webcam integration] be to add an option to allow [iframe embedding]?" 00:47:44 "Since you've worked at a "conventional" job and are now full-time on OctoPrint, how would you say the two compare? I could see the OctoPrint work would fall somewhere between self-employed and having 1000+ bosses." 00:52:03 "A nice feature for multi user setups might be a system where a privileged user can set "printer ready/not ready" and a less privileged user can only use a ready printer." 00:53:08 "A super far fetched dream would be to use machine vision to detect clear or busy build plate."
