Missing Micah wasn’t a rare occurrence. In fact, you found it to be an everyday ordeal missing him and his stupid laughs and the way he would hold you after a long day. Today in particular, however, your longing for him had been worse.

It was your Mother’s birthday this week and you had traveled to celebrate it. You had half a mind to bring Micah with you— but it was your Mother’s day. Springing your new boyfriend on her and indirectly making the day about you and your relationship just felt wrong. Even if you were excited to introduce the both of them to each other, that would require another day.

As such, it’s been almost a week since you last saw him.

You’re not prone to sulk— your Mother raised you better than to revolve your day around someone else— but it was hard not being around your happy virus and your Mother was quick to notice your despondence. Even if you refused to admit it.

Which was why when your face lit up from a text message after a period of pouting, your Mother was quick to pounce on you with a tease.

Wow, that is the brightest I have seen you since you’ve been home. Is it your boy, hmm? The one who didn’t bring me a gift for my birthday?”

She cackled in the background at the blush that colored your cheeks, and you only had the time to roll your eyes at her before she went to answer the doorbell.

Glancing back down at your phone, you read a message from your one and only.

Dear Angel,

It’s crazy that we’ve known each other for a couple of months because it really doesn’t feel like it. The days pass so quickly now that you’re in my life. There’s so many things we’ve done together and so much more that I want to do with you. I can’t believe I was able to live the life that I had before I met you.

I knew love changed people, but this was the first time where I felt like everything was changed in the best ways possible. I love you. I can’t wait to grow old and older and even older with you!

P.S. SORRY I’M TEXTING THIS TO YOU. I WAS TOO EMBARRASSED TO MAIL MY LOVE TO YOUR MOM’S PLACE HAHA. I WILL…WRITE YOU A LETTER ONE DAY. SOON!!! I love you and hope you have a great time at your mom’s!

Also P.P.S. ur mom is very cool! V athletic!!!

As you reached the end of the text, your mom shrieked and you heard her running down the hallway. When she entered the living room again, she’s holding up a pair of boxing mitts with her name engraved on them.

“I DID GET A GIFT FROM YOUR BOY, HOLY SHIT!”

She’s beyond ecstatic as she shared with you the contents of her gift, which were matching mitts for the rest of your family and you had to laugh. You’re positive that you had mentioned your Mother doing MMA once to him, yet he still remembered it. Even when he’s not around, Micah’s penchant to surprise you was a stable factor in your life.

The days passed and with it was your return to your apartment and job. Both you and Micah had been working since you got back, leaving any interaction between the confines of your texts or late facetimes.

Your longing for him has never been greater. Sometimes you catch yourself wistfully staring at your computer screen amidst meetings, weighing the options of running out in the middle of a debrief just to see him again— even if for a second. But the consequences of doing so would crash down and you’re left just lamenting over your stupid schedule and stupid work policies and stupid wantings.

But there’s only so much moping you can allow yourself to do. So when you were able to clock out of work, you decided to take a walk around your neighborhood and ease your head. Just as you were swinging the door open, you registered a sharp yelp and the way the door bounced back to your palm.

“WAHH! OH WOW THAT HURTS!”

You heard Micah before you saw it was Micah, and you slipped past the door to find him rubbing at his forehead with a pout.

Of course it’s him. Of course he’s the one who got hit by the door as you’re leaving.

The laugh you made was his only warning before you jumped, wrapping your arms over his shoulders. Even if he was still reeling from that little accident, Micah caught you with an arm around your middle. The familiar weight immediately sent your piling, melancholic feelings away, and you tucked your head under his chin.

“I really wanted to see you today.” You admitted with a sigh and he chuckled.

“Today? I’m pretty sure you want to see me everyday.”

Your lips pulled into a small smile that you knew he couldn’t see. Always so quick to tease.

“Fuck you.”

Micah laughed and you rolled your eyes, tightening your hold on him for a second longer— dissolving into the familiarity of his words, his mannerisms, him. When you’re finally content, you gave him a tap on the back and Micah squeezed you one last time before letting go.

“What are you doing here?” You asked, pleased by his surprise visit but lost as to why and he presented a bouquet of flowers that you failed to notice earlier.

“A little late White’s Day present.” Micah said with a medley of carnations, daisies, and poppies— all in various shades of white and pink.

You’re touched by the sight as you reach for the card attached to it. “Aww, babe. You didn’t have to. You already wrote me a little cute note and everything.”

“I know… But I can’t exactly show up empty handed when I see you.” He grinned, proud and beaming but it softened at the end and he angled the flowers to you— a little embarrassed and shy. “I hope you like them. Got them in your favorite colors, you know?”

You smiled before accepting them. With Micah, it was always the little things. When you miss him, he’s there with a hug. And if he’s not around, he’ll find some way to be.

“You’re silly.” You said, your free hand coming up to hold his. “Thank you, Micah.”

His fingers slid across your palm until they’re clasped around yours, palm facing palm, and he brought your knuckles up for a kiss. “Of course, angel. I love you.”

Basking in his adoration for you, you giggled and stepped closer. “I love you, too.” You said before leaning in for a proper kiss.
