Oden absolutely wouldve known what Opening the Borders means. Because it was taught to him by his father in preparation for becoming Shogun. So everything that Sukiyaki told them here Oden knew. So it frames his desire to Open the Borders in a new and different light. Which is very interesting.

It's safe to assume Shanks has the most advanced haki. He also has another Conqueror's Haki technique revealed in the special volume that came with Film Red - Observation killing. His opponents can't use future sight against him

Not true at all. Logia have weaknesses too. Luffy has beaten Enel and crocodile without Haki.
