This ending is sad but at the same time it’s also super happy imo. The author has said that Irene and the others all have the exact same souls as jolyne and the others. So like you said, this universe is pretty much the same universe as we all know except it doesn’t have pucci in it. Since pucci isn’t alive, Jotaro actually got to spend time with Jolyne/Irene, since Pucci wasn’t there to send stand attacks after Jotaro. This means that Jotaro didn’t actually need to leave his family to protect them. So thanks to this Irene actually lived a good life and was able to get a good boyfriend instead of Romeo. Since Anasui/Anakiss started dating Jolyne/Irene, he never committed murder. Irene also doesn’t have Jo in her name anymore, showing us that the Jojo curse was broken. Since pucci doesn’t exist, she no longer is fated to fight anyone, so her name now doesn’t have Jo in it. Parts 1-5 still happened exactly the same way, since Pucci had no influence on those. Jotaro still beat Dio and Kira, but since pucci no longer sent stand attacks after him, Jotaro was finally able to live a relatively peaceful life with his family, and Irene had a great relationship with him. This universe is exactly the same just without Pucci in it, so all those who died to him still have the exact same souls now. It’s sad because the people that emporio spent time with won’t have any memories of that, but at the same time they were finally able to live good lives because Pucci never existed. Also I think this is important to clarify, when the manga for stone ocean was announced, it was advertised as the end to the entire Jojo series. If you don’t wanna know then don’t read this, I won’t spoil anything about part 7s characters or plot. Part 7 to 9 are all set in a completely different universe, they have a different timeline and completely new characters compared to parts 1-6. Part 6 was the end to Jotaro and jolynes story as well as the Dio and Joestar rivalry. So think of Part 6 as the ending to the original Jojo, it wrapped up the Dio and joestar rivalry and Jotaro and Jolynes story.
