Much as I've come to hate her for the duplicitous traitor she is, I can't help but sympathize (to a degree). That doesn't mean that I'm excusing her for her behavior, absolutely not. I'm saying I can understand how she'd end up like this. But again, ONLY to a degree. When I was younger, I, too, felt the crushing weight of being ignored after always being the center of attention and ended up becoming a people pleaser. Whether it was because I wanted to feel needed or simply out of fear of getting hurt/rejected, I did everything I could for those around me. But after realizing I mattered so little to them to the point where it felt like I wasn't even apart of their lives, as well as making too many mistakes, the weight of it all ended up crushing me. I'd say it was the emotional equivalent of getting hit by a bus. Afterwards, by some miracle, I eventually managed to break out of my people pleasing habits and fully embraced my inner selfishness. Bad as that sounds, it was way too stressful bending over backwards for everyone, whether the favors were big or small. I'll still help people, but I've learned how to pick my battles a lot better. What can I say? Sometimes taking care of yourself is more important. That said, I like to think I try to do right for the ones who mean the most to me. And now, after seeing her backstory, I can't help but think; If something had happened to me to make ME snap, would I have turned out like Kushida???
