This story reminds me a little bit of Mahoromatic. I shall now relate the description of her story while choking back tears, Mahoro was involved in an important battle against invaders. For her role in saving the Earth she was given a choice as her reward. She could continue on as a battle android but her power source is waning and it would only last for another three weeks, or she could remove her power armor and retire to live free for 250 days. She chose to remove her battle suit but asked for one thing, she wanted to live in the household of her commanding officer, the scientist who created her and who died during the battle. Everyone was surprised at the humble request. She asked for her identity to be kept secret and to be hired on as a maid in the house so that she could watch over and guide the professor's young son who was orphaned. And so begins the story of Mahoromatic Automatic Maiden (2001), she dusts, she's clumsy, but she's involved in slices of life stories with the boy she is watching over to pay back the kindness of her commander. It's a worthwhile and simple idyllic life perhaps. At the end of each episode it counts down how many more days she has to live. "Mahoro stops functioning in 127 days."
