Yeah a Chuuni is basically "playing pretend" into their teens. Usually there's some problem in their lives that causes them to turn to fantasy in order to avoid reality. Usually they tend towards the edgy to the extreme, every character they create has darkness powers that are cursed. It's already been mentioned here but I'll reiterate Love Chuunibyou and other Delusions is an EXCELLENT romcom dealing with Chuunibyou, or 8th grader syndrome and it's sometimes called. Can't recommend the series enough!
