about that "smack", ist called manzai and its a form of japanese comedy, where one is the "idiot"(boke) and the other is the "serious man"(tsukkomi). you see it a lot in anime, where one "smacks" the other when they say something stupid, Usopp and Luffy do it a lot.

In the manga she gives him a kiss on the cheek at the end of ep 4 they cut it out of the anime for some reason.

She clearly likes him, her teasing is her way of flirting. Her face is always red from blushing when she's near him.

If you are looking for an anime that's somewhat similar to this, but much more wholesome, I recommend "Uzaki wants to hang out.". It has many similarities but no bullying, just teasing. The second season is already announced for it.

The way her friends mess with him is bullying because whenever Nagatoro does it she's always blushing almost as much as senpai , she's probably just as shy as he is, but just able to push herself past it.
