Now you know the "trump card" she was referring to in Episode 3 :) The mystery behind the ice "statues" and the source of the black poison will be relevant later on in the series. It's a really neat story about Emilia rejecting labels put on her & finding a family. I wouldn't call it a full backstory, it just puts into context some parts of her character (and her argument with Subaru in episode 13).

Great OVA, Rezero has a great world and it's awesome to see the lore. It also showcases how brutal the world is to not just Subaru. Well tbh, Emilia is an exception too, since her appearance and everything, she definitely has it worse than most characters. The context of the relationship between Puck and Emilia is eye opening, not only for the things that we've seen, but also what we will see, so I think it was good to watch this. Can't wait for your S2 reactions

Was great rewatching again! Caught some things I didn't notice the first time. The green cloak she puts on at the beginning looks to be the same one the little girl has on. Also just caught that quick cameo at 50:05 of the reaction!

Glad you enjoyed! Though I interpreted Puck's appreciation for Suburu's comment about melting ice as more of a reflection of how nothing is permanent or set in stone/ice i.e. In particular this could allude to her opening up her heart more to strangers, as due to her mistreatment she has had to be quite guarded and reserved about sharing details about herself or how she really feels about a situation. Simultaneously and harking back to the component of things always changing, it could refer to the fact that just because Emilia is a half-elf that fact alone doesn't define what she will be, as Puck's oath didn't define what he would do.
