You should consider watching the ova memory snow before jumping onto ep13. It takes place before the next arc and this is where Re:Zero truly differs itself from other Isekai, especially Subaru. Tutorial over, now for the prologue.

Memory Snow is a fun & heartwarming OVA that takes place between episodes 11 and 12. You can watch it now, or you could also just watch the 2 OVAs after catching up to the main series.

The director's cut adds unnecessary music in some places and removes music in others, and also ruins the perfect use of the episodic format this series is known for. The clever cliffhangers and title cards are all gone. You're doing the show a disservice by recommending that to first-timers.

Also, this is where we start seeing more of Subaru's hero/protagonist complex, especially after his success in Arc 2 getting to his head. He thinks he's some fantasy hero and idealizes Emilia as his "heroine". His possessiveness, like how he was with Julius in EP12, is one of the things the show criticizes. All the characters except one for this arc have been introduced already, and the next OP is really good! Hope you react to it (OPs for Re:ZERO only show new characters to hype you up and not spoilery details)

Episode 11: Aka Rem is precious episode. Rem has one of my favorite character developments, although the series has a lot of good ones. But seeing her crushed by the expectations, feeling relief at the 'source' (her sisters power), and then regret at feeling happy, too me is such a powerfully tragic backstory. Side note, the author mentioned if Ram never lost her horn she would be super powerful. She technically is still powerful, just tires out super easily. Episode 12: Seeing some jealous Subaru in this. We get to see the other candidates! And it all comes full circle with Felt coming back! Can't wait for the rest. It's pretty subtle but if you notice there is something mentioned in this episode about Wilhelm's name.

They did my boi Al dirty af. They basically skipped his entire backstory from the mango, which would have changed the viewer's view on Re:Zero world, because of implications by the background...
