Well, Gildarts is too powerful so he has to stay away most of the time for plot reasons. Erza clearly said she's not even in his league, so that should be an indication. Then it's also his magic, which is extremely powerful. Also, I think you misunderstood the quests. 100 years quest means that it's been over 100 years since it was posted and no one managed to complete it, not that it takes 100 years to complete it xD

Where are the bleach reactions? At this point won't even be getting past the filler, or even catch up to the anime. I believe bleach was monday/friday in the schedule?

Lucy had asked Mirajane about how many s class wizards they had once and she said there was 5. They didn't directly mention Gildarts but at that time we only knew of Mira , Erza, Mystogan,and Laxus. Gildarts is more of a big brother to Natsu than a father figure in the way Natsu looks up to him.

The author is a fan of Naruto and one piece so that's why he makes some clones from those shows. Gildarts is definitely a clone of shanks but I'm sure it's out of respect.

Reason that they never mentioned Gildarts before is because Fairy Tail was supposed to end around episode 50 or something.

i never noticed the similarity until you mentioned it. i think because i saw it in manga first, so without color, but even then i guess i didn't think about Shanks much. looking into it now apparently Mashima loved Shanks from OP which is why he chose this. i guess i can't tell without Shanks scar

I love how the first thing Gildarts does when he sees Fairy Tail is sigh lmao a MOOD, he’s actually really great and what you’ve seen so far was a basic introduction, there’s so much more to him. I can’t wait for you to get further into the show, you’ll love his character.

I saw once that Hiro Mashima and Oda worked together as assistants to the creator of Rurouni Kenshin. Must be that one made reference to the work of the other idk

In Manga Gildarts was referenced way early then at this point of the story but due to the fact that anime should have ended after the Laxus arc they basically written him off. For exemple when Laxus and Mystogan confront each other at chuch and Laxus goes on about who is the strongest in Fairy tail in anime Mystogan mentiones that Laxus shouldn't rule out Erza however in manga he says "It's obiviously Gildarts" instead.
