Law and Robin’s backstory’s always destroy me. I don’t watch the anime anymore since I just read the manga now, but damn, Toei really nails the emotional moments of the series.

This backstory proves Doffy was born wrong, and wasn't a product of his past. They went through the same shit and came out completely different. In fact I'd hesitate to say that Doffy's childhood wasn't even as bad as Laws, or Robins, and they both turned out human. He's just pure evil.

In case you don't realise - this boy, that Navi take care of is Drake. He became Marine and then left. Diez Drake - he was the son of the pirate that has Ope-Ope fruit.

Probably my favorite backstory .. You have to remember that Doffy took from Rosinante everything that was important to him - their father. Corazon has a good heart, he loved his parents, he was really sad when his mother died and did not blame his father for it, like Doffy. Doffy was carried by anger all the time. He killed their father, everything that was left to Corazon. Then Doffy just left Corazon hoping to return to Mariejoi (we can see how Corazon stands alone in the junkyard crying after Doffy killed their father). Sengoku took him in, raised him, basically gave him a house. Doffy has never been a family for Corazon

Doffy properly has the best backstory for a villain in One Piece. (If live action One Piece tv show ever get to this point, it would be awesome.) Corazon properly has a good anticipation/foreshadow death backstory story-line. Most author might use shock death story-line with him. The author that make audience knowing their character death ahead of time but still make it feel emotional when it does happen required more skill to write.

I think that Doffy was combination of his personality and a product of his past. He would of been a traditional spoil brat World Noble if this didn't happen to him. This past event made him a more knowledgeable, vengeance seeking and power hungry World Noble. Fear of suffering push him more to the direction who he is today. I think his solution of no more suffering is power.

Fun fact. Corazon means Heart in Spanish. Hence the heart Pirates, and the heart shape of the Op Op fruit is a nice tie in too.

Law, as a child lost his family, friends, his everything, eventually his life. he basically lost his heart. Corazon, which you'd now by now what it translates to, gave him a new leash on life. showed that at least he cared about him, that he, as a human has value. Corazon gave him a new heart (though the Op Op fruit shaped like a heart was a bit on the nose), something Law is forever grateful to the point that he named his crew the Heart Pirates and have tattoos of it. that poignant revelation shortly after I read the chapter Corazon died, made for a one-two gut punch of emotions as i teared up a second time just moments after drying my eyes out.

Now i know after watching corazon episodes. Corazon knew he can't change his brother to be good anymore, when he saw Law and think that he could still change law not to be like Doffy. The only way to save Law is to nurture him as good parents does, show that there's still good in the world by showing kindness and empathy towards him. One piece always emphasize Nurture a lot, but if you see how Doflamingo was born evil. You can also see that Nature can also be a big play in this series. This clear out why did Law save Luffy in marineford as well. It is because of the will of D corazon told him about, the natural born killer of the gods.

That castle in the background when Doffy and Rosinante speak on the snail is the castle from Luvneel Kingdom, the land where Montblanc Norland was born, lived, and been executed (remember the shape are the same, per exemple, as the decoy Cricket used for his little house). They're all in Northblue so it's actualy pretty sweet Oda makes those kinda connexions here and then. Also fitting that the place famous for the book about the most famous liar is used here in a conversation involving a lot of lies.

They say eyes are windows to the soul, and Oda wanted us to see Doffy as a merciless ruthless Devil a “ Heavenly Demon”. So despite his sad sympathetic back story it’ll be hard to feel sympathy for him without seeing his eyes. This is my theory btw.
