Yeah, Ponzu's death is surprising and shocking. Even more brutal in the manga where there's not only more blood, but also shows some chunks of her as she's eating (luckily not very recognizable and the art was pretty crappy since the author was... and still not in good enough health to draw weekly releases). While she was a minor character, I never expected them to give her such a brutal death. Personally it's the most brutal moment for me in the arc, but there's many moments one could consider to be the most brutal. And since you already figured it out and the anime blatantly showed it as well, some ants do inherit some memories. As for whether they're the same person or something else entirely, you'll have to keep watching to see if you can figure it out. Ponzu though... she was eaten by a generic ant... there's no getting back for her. RIP Ponzu, one of the top 10 cutest girls in HxH (not that it has many).

it only gets darker. If you want the happy cheerful HxH, you should probably drop the series now honestly :(
