So much to think about with this arc! I did NOT remember that twist at 19:25, so my reaction was similar to yours, but it makes a lot of sense to me! Overall, what did you think of this arc? Where does it rank for you among the ones you've seen so far?

Calu

This is up there as one of the most memorable arcs in this show. I especially like how it does away with the false binary of Jedi and Sith. It showed us, for the first time in the canon - I believe(?) - how there are force wielders more powerful than both, and that there could be light side wielders that are NOT Jedi and dark side wielders that are NOT Sith.

Calu

Also, the Father HAD to take away Anakin's memories to give him back choice and agency over his future. The Son had made Anakin turn to the dark side - Anakin turned evil to avoid becoming the evil he was shown. 😲 Despite what WE know ends up happening from the movies, those things have not happened YET. You have to pay attention to what the Father says: "Your destiny can change just as quickly as the love in one's heart can fade. NOTHING is set in stone". It is the classic question of predestination vs. choice in sci-fi and fantasy stories.

Calu

Wait, do not forget what follows that sentence: "Stay on this path, and you will do it again for the galaxy. But beware, your... HEART". 😢 CHILLS!!!

Calu

I agree that it is an odd choice metaphor, but the point is that even real love can fade - I guess the "quickly" part might take away a bit of the punch. 🤔 BTW, remember how "quickly" Anakin turns on Padme at the end of Episode 3. 😉

Calu

I think that is correct! Anakin's heart (wanting to save Padme) is what made him choose the wrong path, and like you said, at the end (saving Luke) brought him back. I think one of the coolest things about this series, as opposed to how it is presented in the movies, is that it shows us how it is NOT just Padme. We get to see his heart in how much he loves Obi-wan and also in how much he loves Ahsoka. Ahh, you know what the Jedi say about attachments man! 😢 I think here is where Sarah would say: "Ay, na ako" which I think means something like "Oh my" 😁

This is absolutely one of my favorite arc. I love the mythical storytelling part of it and it balances revealing just enough but still leaving mystery. 🧡

He certainly believed he loved her however I don’t think he learned what love really was until return of the Jedi maybe?

Yes! I remember hearing Dave Filioni on a podcast several years ago responding to a request for an explanation of a plotline in TCW (It might have been this one), and he essentially said "I could tell you, but then that would take away the need for all the theorizing." That answer is a little annoying, but also respectable. I think a huge part of what makes the Star Wars stories and fandom so much fun is all the mystery and theories within it (not to mention, it keeps the fans hooked, which works out well for the SW crew). There's something about a mystery being solved or a case being closed that makes it less fascinating, and Filioni knows that.

If he really loved his mom he would have asked Obi Wan for a loan to buy her and free her from tanttooine LOL jk
