Here's the full length reaction to Beverly Hills Cop, our latest poll winner! Billy was my favorite character from this movie; I knew he looked familiar, but I didn't realize that he's the actor who plays Neil in The Santa Clause movies until I looked him up! Happy Gilmore was just a few votes behind (and was leading the poll for a while), so you'll be getting that reaction next week :) Enjoy!

Happy Wednesday, Addie. I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie. I've only seen the second film, but I'm open to watching this one soon. BTW, I'm also glad you were able to recognize Judge Reinhold in this movie, since you've seen him as Neal in the Santa Clause movies. And I'm also looking forward to seeing you watch Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) because that movie is directed by Tony Scott, the director of Top Gun (1986).

Speaking of Martin Brest, who directed this movie, I also suggest Going In Style (1979), Midnight Run (1988), Scent of a Woman (1992), Meet Joe Black (1998) and Gigli (2003, pronounced JEE-lee). #MoreMartinBrestForAddieCounts

And another buddy-cop movie that I would love to see you watch soon, that's also produced by Don Simpson & Jerry Bruckheimer is Bad Boys (1995), directed by Michael Bay. #MoreDonSimpsonAndJerryBruckheimerForAddieCounts

I suppose, as with "Rush Hour," you're going to also feel compelled to watch the 2 sequels?

Byrd N. Hand

"Going in Style" (the 1979 original, not the mediocre remake) and "Midnight Run" are Brest's best films, IMO.

Eddie Murphy will never be boring. This is my fav of his 😂

Alex Tan

I do hope she carries on with the two sequels, more so with 2 as a fan of director Tony Scott.

Great reaction, Addie! Love how attached you got to Billy. A few comments: The soundtrack for this movie was a beast. It got so much radio play! It was everywhere. Don't know if you noticed, but Paul Reiser had a brief role in the beginning. He also played Burke in Aliens. For more Judge Reinhold, check out "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". That also had a killer soundtrack. At the gallery, Serge asks Axl if he wants an espresso with a lemon twist. That is actually an amazing drink. Google "espresso romano". You'll find different variations... how much of what part of the lemon, but they are all good. My favorite: shot of espresso, slice of lemon zest left in for three minutes; remove zest and enjoy.

The soundtrack is a Bop!

People seem to overlook Eddie Murphy in "48 Hours" (1982), which was his movie debut. Please get around to that one sometime. It's excellent.

Seems like BHC2&3 are on the horizon and I look forward to it. While you watch for the first time I get to revisit memories I’ve kinda forgotten. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. 80’s soundtracks and 80’s music in general are very hard to be beat!! Purple Rain (1984) VisionQuest (1985) Top Gun All great soundtracks and movies. Billy and Axel are equally funny in my opinion. Predator had a Billy… We get one here.. nice to have them around. Don’t you think? jk.. don’t block me Take care, Addie!!

The second movie is really good too. However, I remember the third one not being very good though.

While I love this movie, I'm not a huge fan of the sequels. But another good Martin Brest movie is Midnight Run, starring Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin.

And the third one wasn't produced by Don Simpson & Jerry Bruckheimer.

Glad you liked this one so much! You might also really enjoy Fletch, another comedy crime mystery with a similar tone, starring Chevy Chase.

I know quite a few people also like the second one, but not many like the third one.
