Happy Wednesday, Addie. Skyfall (2012) was the very first James Bond movie that I saw in theaters. I really enjoyed seeing it in IMAX 1.90:1 with my family, back in 2012. This movie got me interested in IMAX's Expanded Aspect Ratio afterwards. BTW, nice turtleneck.

Happy Wednesday, Addie! 😊 This was the only Daniel Craig James Bond movie that I've seen prior to you reacting to his other ones. I've got the title song "Skyfall" by Adele on multiple playlists on my Spotify. Really looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today. 😊

Speaking of Sam Mendes, who directed this movie and Spectre (2015), I also suggest American Beauty (1999, Oscar-winner), Road to Perdition (2002, with Tom Hanks), Jarhead (2005), Revolutionary Road (2008), Away We Go (2009), 1917 (2019), and Empire of Light (2022).

I'm sure the name 'Moneypenny' means nothing to you, but to those of us who are well-versed in the Bond universe, we know that it's the name of M's longtime secretary, who, in the 'Bond 1.0' movies, had an unrequited crush on Bond. Also, Q was the one who provided Bond with all his various gadgets in those movies. And, yes, I would implore you to check out the 'Bond 1.0' movies once you've wrapped up these movies since they're not as dead serious as the Craig movies (they're also virtually all at least 10-15 minutes shorter) -- again, perhaps in increments? (the Connery/Lazenby movies after a bit of a break, then the Moore movies after another break, and, finally, the Dalton/Brosnan movies after yet another break?).

As far as Javier Bardem goes, the Coen Brothers' "No Country for Old Men" (for which he won an Oscar) is an absolute must.

Alex Tan

That's true. Hopefully Addie does a Coen Bros. poll soon.

As much as I appreciate Addie enjoying this one I have to point out; both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace humanised Bond. He fell in love and had his heart broken in CS and he goes on an irrational revenge mission in QS. This film concentrated on what forged Bond as hardened man, showed that it always came from a place of pain. The relationship between M and Bond had become close to mother and son. Given that he lost his own mother so young it makes sense Bond needed that. As for Bond being 'perfect' this Bond gets beaten up a lot in both CS an QS. Remember when he got poisoned in CS? When LeChiffre beat him at cards? Tortured?! In QS he got suspended for dereliction of duty!! I guess Addie now has full insight into the character. But if she thinks this Bond is cold, Connery is on a different level.

Many of us were gutted when Judi Dench's M died in this one, but at least she went out on a high note, Skyfall is such a fantastic movie. Diving into the pre-Craig Bond movies could be a lot of fun, but for a reactor it does come with challenges. There's TWENTY of them, after all. The first batch, with Sean Connery in the lead, do have some story threads that run throughout his first five, into the one movie with George Lazenby as Bond, and into the next movie where Connery returned for one more("Dr. No" through "Diamonds Are Forever"). After that, Roger Moore's run are pretty much all standalones("Live And Let Die" through "A View To A Kill"), though "For Your Eyes Only" has a couple of references to story elements from the Connery/Lazenby run. Timothy Dalton's two("The Living Daylights" and "License To Kill") work fine on their own. "License To Kill" has a minor reference to something from a previous one, but you won't be lost if you haven't seen them. Pierce Brosnan's Bond movies("GoldenEye" through "Die Another Day") don't rely on prior continuity to enjoy them. If you choose not to watch them all, you can probably guess you will get some PASSIONATE feedback about which movies in the franchise you should pick for your reactions :) Ultimately you've gotta do what feels right for you, but if you do decide to watch the older Bond movies, I'd suggest watching them all but well-spaced so you don't burn out. Maybe on the 7th of each month in honor of 007? :)

Mr. Writhms

Well that's it, Addie. Now you HAVE to go back to the first Pierce Brosnan Bond movie if you want to see more of Judi Dench as "M". She made her first appearance in "Goldeneye" (1995).

Heyyy, it’s Billy and when you started the Bond journey I was looking forward to this the most!! We meet my favorite villain! The planning it took to pull off his revenge. I enjoy when the villain is a few steps ahead! Judi Dench’s M will be dearly missed. I never paid close enough attention to Skyfall’s layout until today, but that place would be an epic setting for a horror/thriller movie!! I’m still wondering if you do the editing, if yes, take a good look at it. You’ve got my interest piqued when you mentioned heavier movies to come. Take care, Addie and Ollie!! I miss him!

ButtercupsTrueLove

This was my favorite Bond in the Daniel Craig series. Addie might also enjoy "Big Fish", starring the late Albert Finney and Ewan McGregor playing the character as a younger man. It's a whimsical tale from director Tim Burton.

Of course, she's already in the process of watching all of the 40 or so MCU movies and TV series, so Bond shouldn't be that difficult after that (especially if she watches them incrementally, as I suggested above). I know the MCU has the benefit of being more 'current,' but there are plenty of Bond fans out there, and the series doesn't get nearly as many reactions for a franchise that's as popular as it is.
