Here's the full length reaction to Episode 5 ("Asylum") of Moon Knight! This was one heartbreaking episode, but I'm glad it explained so much about Marc's life. Enjoy!

This episode is so amazing. So Marc is suffering from a condition called Dissociative Identity Disorder. (Formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder) To dissociate means to have a break from reality. This condition is generally only created from early childhood, it is not something adults can get. Experiences of intense childhood trauma can end up in this disorder. The "Original", in this case, Marc Spector, subconsciously creates an "Alter" personality, often can draw inspiration from things seen around them like movies, TV, etc. This alter in one way or another, helps the original to shoulder the intense trauma they experienced, so that they don't have to face it all alone. Some alters can be aggressive, to protect them original who may be timid. Some can be an emotional support that they needed but never got. In this case, Steven Grant is a brave explorer that protects Marc from the pain he's experienced from his emotionally and physically abusive mother, after already experiencing the heavy trauma of losing his little brother. There's no real cure for DID, as it's a subconscious action, not a virus that harms you. Treatments for DID include integration, getting the alters, however many there may be, to coexist and get along, all because they have a special connection to the original. Basically becoming a family unit. DID is such a complex disorder, but seeing it portrayed this well was such a treat. It's so funny how we fell in love with Steven from the beginning, and didn't love Marc all that much. But now as the show progresses, we love Marc just as much, if not more. Such a cool magic trick how they flip the script on you like that. Marvel is good at making you really sad about so many things. Wandavision, Doctor Strange in What If, No Way Home, Hawkeye and Natasha's death and her relationship with Clint, even Multiverse of Madness, and now Moon Knight. I knew very little about Moon Knight before watching this show, but he's one of my favorite characters after this. Can't wait to see the finale, Addie!

If you really want to wrinkle your noggin, remember that the little girl asked Steven in the pilot how he felt when he was denied into the field of reeds.
