Late to the party here, but some good classic b&w or early technicolor would be Hitchcock movies. Yes he did some horror like Psycho and The Birds, but most of his great stuff was more suspense related. North By Northwest, Rope, Vertigo, Rear Window, and Dial M for Murder are all really good choices.
