Based on the DC poll I put up last week, these are the DC movies that I'm planning on watching and the order I'm planning on watching them!

  • Superman (1978)

  • Batman (1989)

  • Watchmen (2009)

  • Batman Returns (1992) - I've heard this takes place around the holidays? I'm watching this after Watchmen because it'll be December by then!

  • Then I'll start the DCEU with Man of Steel. A lot of people brought up Suicide Squad and The Suicide Squad on the poll, but I didn't feel the need to include those because those movies were on every DCEU list I looked at. I'm not committing to every DCEU movie, but I'll watch the first few and then see how I feel about continuing!

  • I might watch The Lego Batman movie after that, but I'll make sure to watch The Lego Movie first (this is not anytime soon).

If DC movies are not your thang, there will still be plenty of other movies that I'll watch with these! I'm not only watching DC. Thank you all for your advice and guidance with this!

Happy Thursday, Addie. This is a very good plan and it works well for me. See you tomorrow for Superman (1978).

Byrd N. Hand

I'd still also heavily recommend "Superman II," since it pays off the opening scene in the first "Superman" -- and both movies were initially intended to be a 2-parter.

Luis Fernandez

I mentioned this on the initial poll, but I'll say again regarding The Watchmen. The Director's Cut is the best, but I don't think it is streaming anywhere. The Ultimate Cut is a trainwreck that (IMO) ruins the watching experience. So please watch the theatrical release and not Ultimate.

Randee Carreno

Happy Thursday, Addie! 😊 Looking forward to the start of some DC movies starting with "Superman" tomorrow. Have a great day today! 😊

aarswft

Ah but what if we didn’t start the DCEU and just avoided it entirely?

Vwlss Nvwls

Superman (1978) holds a very special place in my heart, because my mother took the day off work to take me to see it after I finally got better from a flu that had me in bed for a week. I was about 9, and just going to the theater with my mother was enough, but then I was watching this movie that just blew me away. It was also the day I became a big Gene Hackman fan, because I was so polarized by his performance.

Andre Agog

The Superman and Batman movies are legitimate classics that had a huge impact on moviemaking. Batman Returns is Burton at his most bonkers and I love it. It will be great to see reactions to these. Given how much of a superhero veteran you are now, it might be interesting to see what you think of Watchmen, the ultimate deconstruction. But generally, I will have to skip anything Snyder-related because I can't stands the guy's style.

PHILLIP CORNISH

Thanks as not a DC fan. I will hopefully find something. A good mix to cater for all is a good plan. 😘

Doug

Sounds like a good list. 🙂 My quick suggestions looking ahead: - If you end up liking Watchmen, I highly recommend the follow-up single season series Watchmen on HBO Max. The movie is ok but the show is awesome! 😄 - My suggestions for the three best DCEU films are Wonder Woman, Shazam, and The Suicide Squad. (Feel free to skip the original Suicide Squad if you want, it’s not as good, that James Gunn version is great though!) Also the James Hunn spinoff series Peacemaker on HBO was great, it’s worth watching just for Eagly and the intro number! 👍 - The Lego Movie is “awesome” and introduces that Lego Batman character as well, definitely worth keeping in mind! - And yes, it’s not a Christmas movie but Batman Returns takes place around the holidays. 🙂

Love The Lego Movie can’t wait until no time soon 🙌🏽

Thats MR. Baldamort

Hey addie here is the list of the few movies leading up to Justice league snyder cut in release order. Its not much and a lot of people end after Snyder cut. - "Man of steel" - "Batman Vs Superman Dawn of Justice" (Be sure to watch the "ultiamte edition" as it adds way more context for the story as originaly intended) - "Wonder Woman" - "Justice League Snydercut" 4 amazing fllms.

John Locke

Good day to you Addie! I want to also second, when you get to snydervese, watch The "Ultamate Edition" of Batman Vs Superman and then watch the "Snydercut" of Justice League. Those versions make the movies so much better in all aspects. It's like watching the extended cuts of lord of the rings for example.

Julian San

Girl, DC movies are totally my thing. And my thang. AND my thong!

HeyHeyJK

I have no real interest at all in most of the DC films but can't wait for you to watch "The Lego Movie". It's so great.

Jesse Shadows

After Watchmen you should watch the Watchmen show from hbo. It’s only like 10 episodes but an amazing show well worth the watch.

Jayson Phillips

Don't forget the Flash movie at the end =) Also there is Jonah Hex and Green Lantern movies but you probably won't want to watch Green Lantern.

Kyle Brandon Sanger

Hi Addie, I would recommend 'John Carter' because the character may have been on of the inspirations for the creation for Superman. Also, I do have a question: Which version of 2009's 'Watchmen' are you planning on watching? There's the theatrical cut, the director's cut, and finally, the ultimate cut? I love the Zack Snyder trilogy, I love 'Man of Steel' and Henry Cavill is a phenomenal Superman but its a shame, thinking of what could have been.

Jasbro

Awesome list Addie, i am very excited for all of these and if you do plan on going all the way to the Justice League of the DCEU make sure its the Zack Syder version, it is longer but it is a million times better than the original release.

Happy Hanukkah

Just to clarify: Suicide Squad (2016) is arguably the least well-regarded DCEU movie, and has practically no connection to anything else. Its standalone sequel, The Suicide Squad (2021) is the "much" more popular one. (Though I could do without it either.) "I'll watch the first few and then see how I feel about continuing!" Excellent idea in principle. The only flaw in case you enjoy the first ones, is that the latter ones (post- Justice League) are generally less well-regarded.

Matthew Periolat

I’d encourage adding Superman II to the schedule, it’s a good movie!

Guillaume Huet

Superman with another iconic score by John Williams. yay!

LaserLamb

Yeah, not so into comic book movies. 🙄

Rileymetal

Don't forget Superman II

Cameron Kerby

So, Batman (1989) wins the poll, but still, Superman is the first one? Hmm.

Doug

I just realized all of these movies are on Max. I guess I'm resubbing to that soon. 😄

Sean

Suuperman was released more than 10 years before it.

Sean

Great list. The first 4 films and the Lego Batman film are all worth watching.

Jay Perry

I like Suicide Squad and The Suicide Squad, two movies that have little in common.

Anthony Jackson

Cant wait for these! But most of all, The Lego movie and lego batman movie! Man of steel is also a gem to me!

Byrd N. Hand

Yeah, the only superhero movies I give a damn about are the first 2 "Superman" movies, Tim Burton's 2 "Batman" movies (on which I grew up), and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy (and really only because Nolan directed them, in that case). So at least this won't be a *total* loss for me the way Addie's MCU and X-Men reactions were.

Byrd N. Hand

Not to mention it'll familiarize her more with a character also featured in "Man of Steel."

Danny G

I really like this order.👍

LaserLamb

I've seen my share. Not everyone has the same taste in movies. Deal with it.

Doug

Lol, yeah it is kind of funny how you can pretty much completely skip Suicide Squad and see The Suicide Squad as a stand-alone movie.

Cameron Kerby

That’s not the point. I know that Superman came before Batman, but Batman won the poll, so it should be viewed first. That’s all I’m saying.

DM DC

Perosonally I'd recommend skipping Suicide Squad and just going with Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020) that one was great! And then also The Suicide Squad (2021) . That one is all kinds of fun.

Pavel Malý

Definitely worth watching both Suicide squads and Peacemaker show that follows the newer one.

DCEU (DC Extended Universe) The DCEU is very unique. Man of Steel (2013) marked the beginning of the DCEU, but what's unique about it is that it was never originally intended to launch an interconnected universe. That role was meant for Green Lantern (2011), starring Ryan Reynolds, but the film was a major box office failure. When Man of Steel was released, Warner Bros shifted plans and decided to make it the starting point for an MCU-like shared universe. However, director Zack Snyder was more focused on developing Man of Steel 2. Man of Steel itself aimed to emulate the Dark Knight trend of grounded and gritty superhero storytelling, which ultimately set the tone for the entire DCEU. It’s also very much Zack Snyder’s vision of these characters and world, for better or for worse depending on who you ask. Then came Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Unlike the MCU, which carefully built its connected universe over several films, the DCEU struggled with its structure from the start. Launching their shared universe with a second film centered on a confrontation between Batman and Superman. It would be like if Captain America: Civil War (2016) was the 2nd film in the MCU released after Iron Man (2008). Still, there’s no reason not to check out a few DCEU movies. Even if they’re not exactly my style, I think you might enjoy them, especially with fresh eyes and as someone with no comic book bias. I personally just never cared for Snyder’s take on these characters and the DC universe. DCU (DC Universe) James Gunn is re-booting the DC Universe with Superman (2025). While Creature Commandos (2025), an animated series, will officially kick off the new DCU, Superman will be the next major DC film, introducing audiences to this new, more fantastical DC universe. Some actors and events from past movies will remain, mainly those tied to Gunn’s previous projects like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. However, about 99% of the DCEU will be left behind, basically everything to do with Justice League and the main cast of characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman etc. Just something to keep in mind as you dive into the new DC content releasing in the coming years after you come off the DCEU. The Superman, Lois Lane, and Metropolis we see in Superman (2025) along with the DCU is not going to be the same one you meet in Man of Steel and the DCEU. Complete reboot when it comes to the core of the universe.

Alex Vazquez

DCEU VIEWING ORDER: (Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy can be considered an UNOFFICIAL prologue although it's not connected: -- Batman Begins -- The Dark Knight -- The Dark Knight Rises) 1. Man of Steel 2. Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice: Ultimate Edition 3. Suicide Squad 4. Wonder Woman 5. Zack Synder's Justice League 6. Aquaman 7. Shazam 8. Birds of Prey 9. Black Adam 10. Shazam: Fury of the Gods 11. The Flash 12. Blue Beetle 13. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom "Joker", "The Suicide Squad" and "The Batman" exist in their own continuities. "Wonder Woman 1984" is garbage and should be ignored. End-credit scenes just like MCU.

Byrd N. Hand

Granted, WW84 is hardly the only title on that list that's considered garbage by the general public; I'd argue more of them are than aren't.

Philip Davetas

Here's my thing on the DCEU. Like the MCU's phase 4, it's fine. Not good. Not totally fucking horrible, but adequate. I'm not a big superhero person in general because I don't believe in people who have powers they don't deserve or have earned, but I accept it as an empowerment ideology and as a trope. The DCEU, which will now be the DCU, will be interesting now that everyone's into do-overs aka the multiverse, I kind of wish movies existed on their own plain. I mean, dude, when you watch a vampire movie everyone pretends they never heard of one regardless of the countless movies out there. It's called the motherfucking Zeitgeist. If I was walking down the street and someone next to me stripped down butt-ass and flew off into the sky, I'd be like, "You go, homie. Yeah, well, I still gotta pay rent. Good luck with your naked-ass self."

Thats MR. Baldamort

That is false Byrd. Actually of that list only about 4 or 5 of them didnt do as well of the 13 listed.

Alexander George

Hi , Addie. I just watched your reaction to Superman. Thank you for reacting to this first before Batman. I do want to let you know that Superman 2 continues the relationship b/w Lois Lane & Clark Kent/Superman as well as the villains being the 3 people banished in the glass prism in the beginning of Superman. Gene Hackman is also on Superman 2 reprise his role as Lex Luther. It is a very good sequel. If you do decide to react to Superman 2 in the near future, my suggestion is to see the Theatrical Cut not the Richard Donner cut. Thanks again, Addie and I am looking forward to see your Batman (1989) reaction with Michael Keaton.

Byrd N. Hand

The only titles here that I've seen/heard talked about in a remotely positive light are, at most, the first 7... and the aforementioned "Joker," "THE Suicide Squad," and "The Batman" (and she's now already reacted to "Joker" and "The Batman"). 🤷‍♂️ I *really* don't want to see Addie waste her time watching all 13 of those titles and edit them all down for YT only for most of the latter ones to get extremely anemic views over there, à la "The New Mutants," Secret Invasion, and Echo. 🤐
