I was THIS CLOSE!! to winning this month!

Randee Carreno

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 Thanks so much for another great monthly Q&A. Have a great day today, and a great weekend! 😊

Gremlin8723

I didn't know about the studio Ghibli copyright. That's a shame.

Thats MR. Baldamort

It's a shame godzilla minus one didn't win the spin. It's a movie thar addie should watch for the channel irregardless because it's new and tending. It's rated higher than barbie and Oppenheimer. It's just awesome. Poor things is pretty much a soft core porn in lots of moments, and bloody and gross in other moments, so yeah I'd keep it off youtube if you want to keep your channel. Not sure why anybody would recommended it tbh knowing the material.

Byrd N. Hand

Calling "Poor Things" soft core porn is a gross oversimplification, but it definitely *is* an 'acquired taste' film -- as are all of Yorgos Lanthimos' films ("The Favourite" would probably be the easiest for someone like Addie to digest). I believe only Natalie Gold, CinePals, and BaddMedicine (Appleton Oak from the latter channel surprisingly loved it) have reacted to it on YT so far... and they all have like 400K subs, so they can afford to do an occasional niche film like that once in a while.

Thats MR. Baldamort

fair, I mean its not a bad film, but yeah like you said, it's like American beer. Taste like shit until you drink enough of it 😝

Byrd N. Hand

In relation to celebrities whom Addie resembles, I can't be the only one who gets an Anna Kendrick vibe from her (especially personality-wise), can I? 🤔 As far as "This Is Spinal Tap" goes, the music is largely live performances and fairly easy to mute/cut around (I hate when people classify movies with staged performances in them as 'musicals'; actual musicals are when the actors organically break into song and/or dance while also furthering plot and/or character development in the process 🙄).

Byrd N. Hand

I'd compare it more to pickled herring: you either really like it or you don't. There's rarely a middle ground.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

yeah...the Soft Core Porn thing was a dumb take imo. I think she would love The Favourite. I enjoyed Kinds of Kindness as well but not for everyone..Lanthimos is def an acquired taste. I wish Poor Things had not won because if she watched first 20 mins and didn't finish..I think that says some things (Full disclosure I liked Poor Things quite a lot although did not think it was as great as the awards and reviewers felt). But, I am not a big fan when someone has seen even a portion of the film as it does affect the reaction. For this wheel spin especially where I hope to see films completely new to Addie or something a bit different than other channels may react to, but I digress

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I think that would be a good choice and AK looks quite a bit younger than she is (I am presuming Addie is a decade or so younger than her).. some other actresses I think would be good choices.. Sadie Sink, Cailee Spaeny

My girlfriend & I watched the trailer to Poor Things (2023) in theaters last year and we both didn't like it because of how bizarre it looked to us.

Alex Tan

Happy Friday, Addie. Thank you so much for answering my questions. Here are my thoughts on certain things: 1. I would like to congratulate Carlo Glingani. 🎉🎉 You're suggestion of Poor Things (2023) has just won the Wheel of Addie (which is my name suggestion for the wheel). (To Addie) However, I do hope that you'll still watch Twisters (2024) for the channel because I heard A LOT of good things about the new movie with most enjoying it a lot more than Twister (1996). 2. My girlfriend was also born in Georgia. Addie, we both have partners that were born in Georgia. 3. I have some movies that are so bad that they're so good for you to watch: the Joel Schumacher Batman duology (Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997)) but watch the Tim Burton Batman duology (Batman (1989) & Batman Returns (1992)) first, Godzilla (1998) and Pearl Harbor (2001). 4. With the remaining franchises, like The Naked Gun, Dirty Harry, The Karate Kid, Pirates of the Caribbean, Men in Black and Beverly Hills Cop, on hold, I do hope that they'll appear on a poll after you finish Mission: Impossible and Planet of the Apes. 5. I'm NOT into Jim Carrey's more dramatic movies, like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), because I got used to his comedic and in-your-face side and felt that films like EOTSM were too artsy for my taste. That's why I'm more in favor of Jim Carrey as a comedy actor than a dramatic one. 6. One horror movie that I've been pushing for is the 2000 Extended Director's Cut of The Exorcist (1973), AKA: The Version You've Never Seen. If you can karate chop through The Shining (1980), then you can karate chop through The Exorcist (1973). #TheExorcistForAddieCounts However, a light-hearted Halloween movie that will be a good pallette cleanse is Casper (1995). You're gonna have a lot of fun with that one. #CasperMovieForAddieCounts 7. If a biopic movie was ever made about me, then it'll be an uplifting romantic comedy/psychological thriller about me coping with how to balance my life at work and at home. 8. A Patreon exclusive reupload of Jurassic Park III (2001) & Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) could work. 9. My girlfriend & I did watch Togo (2019) and 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) on Disney+, back in 2019 & 2021, and we enjoyed both movies. 10. Watch Space Cadet (2024), with Emma Roberts, on your own. 11. I DO NOT personally believe in the "ideal runtime" for movies being 92 minutes long. My preferred runtime is either 2 hours minimum, 2 hours and 30 minutes as an in-between, and 3 hours at max. In the end there shouldn't be an ideal runtime because it's totally subjective to the kind of movie being made.

Byrd N. Hand

I'm fine with the occasional re-watch... especially if it's been ages since the reactor has seen the movie in question and may not remember it all that well (and/or for the sake of franchise completion for the channel). Addie has already done 3-4 of them for the channel... though none in over 2 years.

Thats MR. Baldamort

I have been following addie on youtube pretty much since she started and I have never thought "she most likely will not like this movie" until now especially since she saw the first 25 min of it within the last couple months and already she turned it off. I'm looking forward to it, even though I myself didn't like the film all that much, just not my thing but ill be here to watch addie react to it. Will be the most graphic film she will watch at this point.

Alex Tan

I would also love for her to do a rewatch reaction to either E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Ghostbusters (1984), Beetlejuice (1988), or Edward Scissorhands (1990), as a 100K special. Those were her prototype reactions when she first launched with Back to the Future (1985) being her pilot reaction.

Thats MR. Baldamort

Somebody brings up mockumentaries and fails to mention the best one of them all? "Borat" (2006) Addie would break down laughing from this Put it in a comedy poll!

Doug

Fun Q&A as always. 🙂 - This is Spinal Tap has some music in it but it’s definitely not a musical. It’s mainly backstage stuff with the band and some clips of them playing briefly here and there (aside from one “big” number maybe?) Team America is more of a musical than Spinal Tap. 😄 - Sounds like it’s maybe time for a Rom-Com poll… and not a poll of movies that are over two hours long. 😄 Glancing at my Flickchart Romantic Comedy ratings, my suggestions from that include: - The Terminal - Ted - Shakespeare in Love - Pretty Woman - Jerry Maguire - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - There’s Something About Mary - When Harry Met Sally - Four Weddings and a Funeral - Chasing Amy - Splash - Bull Durham (I would say of those Sunshine is maybe more a drama than a comedy, and Ted is more of a comedy than a Romantic Comedy, but they’re both great movies so I’ll allow it, Flickcharts! 👍)

Mr. Writhms

Addie: thanks for adding my misplaced Denzel Washington question from last month. 😉

Alex Tan

You definitely need to watch more Denzel Washington movies. However, Remember The Titans (2000) is a good start. #MoreDenzelWashingtonForAddieCounts

Andre Agog

"Monty Python's Meaning Of Life" does indeed have the best songs, including some of their real classics. The "Galaxy Song", for example. It's not a story like Brian or Grail, being a series of sketches, and that sometimes puts people off. But by golly, I assert it's their funniest movie.

Byrd N. Hand

To be fair, "Holy Grail" is also largely a bunch of sketches all strung together, albeit with the same characters in many of them. And given they were founded as a sketch comedy team, so I'm not sure why it would put anyone off. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

I'll add "As Good as It Gets" and Cameron Crowe's first 2 films, "Say Anything..." and "Singles." Maybe also "A Fish Called Wanda" (which probably leans more comedy), "Sideways" (which probably leans more drama), and the 2 John Hughes-written inter-clique teen romcoms, "Pretty in Pink" and "Some Kind of Wonderful."

Doug

Also I think we can throw in some others I missed - The 40 Year Old Virgin - Broadcast News - Moonstruck - Lars and the Real Girl - Roxanne - Arthur

Richard Higgs

I still can't believe Addie has not watched Arcane, season 2 is coming in November.

VKunia was the reactor who got her channel wiped out from said reactions.

Byrd N. Hand

4. Well, you can now add the Jack Ryan series to that list, given that she's confirmed to be going to watch "The Hunt for Red October." There's the "Ocean's" sequels, too. Personally, I only care about her continuing the "Naked Gun" and Harry Callahan series among those... though I also wouldn't object to "Beverly Hills Cop," given the recent release of the fourth movie. 5. I'll take a more dramatic Jim Carrey over his comedic stylings any day. I enjoyed him on In Living Color, but his comedic vehicles are just too broad and stupid for my tastes. Of those, I can really only tolerate "Dumb and Dumber" -- probably because he has Jeff Daniels there to counterbalance him. "The Truman Show," "Man on the Moon," and "Eternal Sunshine" are his 3 best works, as far as I'm concerned. 11. As Roger Ebert once said, no good movie can be too long, and no bad movie is short enough. However, I do tend to agree with the sentiment that's been going around for a while that no comedy should exceed 110 minutes. There are a few exceptions ("The Big Lebowski" comes to mind, which exceeds this time by about 8 mintues), but I do feel this is a good rule of thumb to keep things from getting too bloated.

Alex Tan

4. Let's hope she does a poll for the remaining franchises. 5. Well, that's your opinion. For me, dramatic Jim Carrey is too niche/too artsy/too depressing as I got used to his comedic side, as most people I know have. That's why I lean more towards The Mask (1994), Liar Liar (1997) & Bruce Almighty (2003). IMO, those are his best movies and my girlfriend liked him in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), so, as a Gen-Zer, I rest my case. 11. The runtime of a movie should depend on the genre.

Gremlin8723

Ah. I saw her reactions once or twice until someone formerly from her inner team posted up some video on how she really was behind the scenes.

Byrd N. Hand

Yeah, I saw that, too, but, honestly, I don't really care about behind-the-scenes drama of any kind -- be it on a TV or movie set *or* YouTube. She doesn't post reactions all that often anyway.

Billy Dancel

Frank Darabont, director of The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption, has a great sleeper of a movie, with Jim Carrey in a dramatic role. The Majestic (2001)
