This probably the "weakest" of the newer films and it's still very good. You're in for a treat

Happy Wednesday, Addie. Your Planet of the Apes journey continues with Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011). I'm so glad that you enjoyed this one. The next three movies keep getting better and better. See you soon for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014).

Happy Wednesday, Addie! 😊 This is such a great movie. Easily one of my favorite James Franco films. And Andy Serkis does great job portraying the motion capture for Ceasar. For more James Franco I very highly recommend the 2013 "Oz, the Great and Powerful". And for more John Lithgow I very highly recommend the 1988 "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". Have a great day today! 😊

Hey addie, some cool trivia about Andy Serkis versions of these films: After his time with Lord of the rings as Gollum he founded the studio behind all the ape CGI "Imaginarium studios" much like Gollum each main ape, with Sekis playing Caesar, every main character ape is played and acted by an actual person even the ape sounds. Everything is Motion Captured exaclty how Gollum was. You will see the quality of the CGI get better with each film going forward.

Speaking of John Lithgow, I also suggest Harry and the Hendersons (1987), Raising Cain (1992, for Halloween), and Cliffhanger (1993, with Sylvester Stallone). #MoreJohnLithgowForAddieCounts

I love all the parallels they make in this movie with the original 1968 film but flipped on their head. The officers riding toward the apes on horseback with batons compared to the original with the apes on horses riding attacking the humans with batons. Caesar's mother being called Bright Eyes which was the nickname the apes gave Taylor (played by Heston). The sadistic guard tormenting Caesar with the hose in his cage versus the ape guard tormenting Taylor with a hose in his cage. The classic lines of "It's a Madhouse" and "Get your stinking paws off me you stinking ape!" being used in both movies.

(URGENT TO ADDIE) The reaction to Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) just got blocked on YouTube.

Omg Addie, I waited two years for this movie and couldn't wait to see it in theaters. John Lithgow was perfect for Charles, and is a brilliant actor in anything he does. His descent back into full dementia just made me cry, because he just never smells like he's acting.......

As a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s, I loved the whole Planet of the Apes catalog. I would watch all the movies and every episode of the short lived t.v. series. I have enjoyed all the reboot versions of the movies, even the bad ones, but this reboot series really does the story/universe justice. I cannot wait to watch them all again along with Addie.

Neither the apes or humans are villains. They are both just sides fighting for survival.

There was a quick scene showing the Icarus mission heading to Mars. That is the mission that eventually returns to Earth after the apes have taken over for who knows how long. There were lots of little easter eggs to the original movie(s), some subtle and some right in your face.

I appreciate how the filmmakers gave the chimpanzees individual faces, just as they have in real life. On another note, if the apes in the redwood forest teamed up with the Ewoks they would be a formidable force.

Damn, girl if you’re already crying this much just minutes into the movie, I strongly suggest having a box of tissues at the ready when you next watch Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
