After killing the monsters with a few swings of her sword, Astrid stood on the other side of the platformed room.

Inching ever so closer to the coveted one-hundred mark, and the class advancement, she pushed on further within the dirt passageways.

Thinking of what she would receive given that her Class was a black blob given Legendary Class. She just hoped it would be something to live up to the name, well, even if it didn’t, it’s not like she had much room to complain.

Just her base Class alone would be enough for her to travel the world

The thought sent a skip in her step as she looked forward to the next battle with giddy excitement. Perhaps the tree king felt her excitement as the moment she cautiously walked into a chamber, Astrid gazed at a humanoid… tree.

Level ??? – Tree Ent Warrior.

It looked just like a seven foot woman, just instead of skin, she was surrounded in a hard bark that doubled as armour. She had no facial features and the only reason Astrid was aware that it was a woman was her figure.

Astrid prepared herself. It must have originally been a woman, only for the strange mushrooms to change her appearance. Or maybe the tree king had something to do with it. Which led her to a second round of thinking.

Perhaps the tree king couldn’t fight himself, so instead, it brought its prey down here and used mushroomified monsters to kill it. Like a cold and calculated admiral in the navy.

Whatever the reason for the appearance was, Astrid wasn’t afraid to kill.

As if it could feel her battle intent, the warrior languidly peeled its body from the walled roots holding it in place. Its eyes opened at the same time it moved. A vivid, neon pink shone from within its pupils as Astrid could immediately feel the dampening effect on her psychic mana.

Had the tree king prepared for her? Or was this just some natural occurrence that she was just unlucky to encounter?

The feeling of a ploy sent a curdling inferno to gather within her blood as her hands trembled. She was sick and tired of people conspiring against her. Whether it was the masked terrorists, betrayal from fellow adventurers, being eavesdropped on by corrupt nobles.

Her view of the world was rapidly being corrupted, and the only enemy for her to take out her anger on was right in front of her.

Before the humanoid tree warrior managed to break free from its restraints, Astrid had no intention of letting it do what it wanted without a little bit of pain.

She created a huge lance of metal with Psych Warp, but instead of pushing it forward with Psychokinesis so that the monster could intercept her mana, she [Crashed] her mind into the hilt. The sharpened lump of metal screamed forward following the explosion of mana, and hurtling straight for the monster's skull.

Just as the metal lance was about to pierce a hole in its head, its head snapped to the side as the lance thudded into the wall.

Frowning, Astrid readied her blade in the Sinwen fighting stance. Because she couldn’t stay connected to the lance, she wasn’t able to change its direction.

Neither did she want to try. The stronger the monster got, the more she was worried about their peculiar psychic mana absorbing Skill.

Astrid was just thankful that she had spent so long training with her sword, well, most of it was from punishments meted out by her father.

The monster glared at her, then instantly broke free from its restraints. Then, it reached for an enormous axe that was also attached to the wall and pulled. The tree roots snapped, and tore away at the tree ent’s might.

It bolted at her.

The speed was blazing and Astrid only barely managed to dodge the blade thanks to the monster entering her Graviton Field. Yet, it emitted a pink flash from its eyes as her gravity field was obliterated in the next second.

Without giving Astrid a moment to think, it blasted straight for her once more.

Astrid dodged hit after hit. She attempted to raise her defences, but they were being erased the moment she placed them up.

It was the first time encountering something that was capable of cancelling her mana with just a look.

Look… Astrid widened her eyes as a plan entered her mind. The beast relied on its eyes to use the Skill, so she just had to cover them.

Dodging another hurtling blade, she gave a spare glance to the floor. Although it was dirt, it was heavily compacted. Some excavation was in order for her plan to work–if it worked.

Astrid was able to dodge so well by connecting to the matter in her body and violently pulling it this way, and that. Adding onto her already existing footwork with her sword techniques, made her just able to dodge the life reaping attacks of the tree ent.

Each dodge of the bladed axe would smash into the ground as it missed its target. The dust was beginning to pile up, but it wasn’t enough.

Connecting to the matter of the dirt floor, and along with the already loose soil from the rampaging attacks of the tree ent, Astrid [Crashed] it.

Just as the monster was about to blink its pretty pink eyes, a wall of dust blasted all around the large, circle room. The dust was like a blanket that made it impossible to see, but Astrid didn’t need to rely on her sight to fight.

After all, she could make out the matter of the monster. Sifting through the dust particles, she connected to the matter of the tree ent and [Crashed] it.

Astrid blasted the monster into the wall, it was about to raise its head when repeated [Crashes] rocked its bark armoured skull. Astrid repeatedly used her [Crash] ability as she charged straight for the monster. While moving, she created a spiralling drill of dark matter as it roused the dust around it.

The spinning, surging sound of the screaming dark matter tingled her ears, but it was a sound she had come to love. It was the sound of a powerful Skill.

Stepping right in front of the monster, she [Crashed] its skull once more, sending it halfway into the wall. Then, she rammed the spiralling lance of dark matter straight into the monster's chest. It emitted a pained roar, but Astrid didn’t care as she used more of her strength to plunge it straight through.

Blood seeped, yet the purple drill seemed to absorb it as it continued to reap the monster's life. Finally, it fell to the ground as the notification of the kill entered her mind.

Level 127 – Tree Ent Warrior.

Not even a Level… Astrid shook her head. But she was close. It seemed that killing monsters above Level one-hundred and twenty-five was the threshold she had to achieve for continuous fast growth. Although next Level it would increase once more.

It was why not a lot of warriors on Rebirth surpassed level two-hundred. It was a monumental achievement that not many could reach in a lifetime. After all, not everyone could continuously, and endlessly, slay monsters.

Especially at higher Levels, and even more so in Cities.

When it came to Cities, there wasn’t just a Level difference. But something within them made them stronger than they should be. It was why City expeditions were only to be undertaken once a year, and only those above a certain Level could take part. It didn’t matter if one was a Wayfarer, Seafarer, or anything else. Everyone could take part if they had the strength to do so.

Of course the rewards were incredibly lucrative, or they wouldn’t surrender their lives otherwise.

It was where many of the families had gained their family heirlooms.

At first, Astrid believed it to be a great treasure exploration mission. Where thousands of the strongest warriors would fight for heirlooms of grand rarity. However, with her current experience of the world, she could only imagine the amount of treachery involved.

And obviously blood.

Shaking her head at the miserable thoughts, she gazed around at the room now that the immediate threat was dealt with. It reminded her of the large domed roof of the auction house, just, pitch black. Although she looked closer, she was able to make out a pale-white that sent a tingle down her spine. Bones.

Humanoid bones, to be exact. She had no idea how long they had been down here, and she had no interest in finding out as she was about to head toward the only other exit in this damned place. It was a door with interlocking vines. A skull and crossbones hung above.

Astrid frowned. Really? She thought. Was the tree king trying to scare her? Because it was working, she just wished nothing would come back to life. She quickly shut off her thoughts, worried that it was somehow reading her mind.

She just hoped she didn’t have Brett’s secret passive ability of talking things to fruition. It was overpowered.

Inching forward to the passageway. She was about to press on the door to open it when the ground shook. It was a familiar sensation, but this time there was no strange pit of mushrooms, but rather the walls trembled, then moved.

The walls groaned, then began moving toward her all at once as they inched ever closer…
