Needs more naked dining

I think the naked dining is him freeing himself from societal expectations and he does it without realizing that that's why. He's not happy with his life but because he's always told he's living the 'perfect' life he doesn't feel like he can complain. I think the director chose this silly route because in Japan complaining/critiquing societal norms is kind of frowned upon. If she had done a more direct message she may have had a harder time getting the project approved. The grandmother dying is kind of a wake up call that he wasted so much time on work when he could've been with his family/her. A lot of Japanese office workers do overtime but almost no one gets over time Pay. Again another critique that it's not worth all that if you miss out on spending time with loved ones. I think like DC says Mahiro has a bond with the grandmother that he is still mourning. Also because he's not being pressured by city life to just move on he's kind of able to mourn in a bit of a more real sense and not see the small things like cooking as insignificant. I feel like city life or even living here in the US for me people don't take time to mourn or remember the dead as maybe they should.
