'The Fog' is my favourite from the rough and ragged coast of California

That blackboard with the blurbs on it is actually half clever, too bad for the movie that they couldn’t be like the album Everybody Digs Bill Evans and have them said by people that audiences might find credible.

Minnesota? The only film I can recall without Google is Slaughterhouse 5. Tricky one that. But California? Make it difficult! Let me see, CA gives me all of Hollywood's output (unless we count that as a separate country...) IN which case I'm caught. Kong Kong or Frankenstein? Oh the 1930's! I'm gonna go with Frankenstein purely for Colin Clive.

The poster worked better for 'Bad Teacher' a couple of years later.

Adrienne Barbeau is so great in that! I loved her voice as the DJ.

Minnesota? A Simple Plan. Not horror per se but using the rural setting's bleakness brilliantly, and showing how easily "good" people can turn on each other, that all they need is a trigger, is certainly terrifying. For California, The Lost Boys. It really uses the gritty, sleazy vibe of a small town tourist trap perfectly, even to the long-honored noir tradition of a wrecked, formerly glamourous hotel being used as a hideout.

My favorite film set, at least partly, in California, is not DC territory, even though it stars Nicholas Cage. It's Con Air and the reason that I'm tossing it in here is because when he tosses the body out of the plane, he does so right over Fresno, quite near where I currently work. Got to love that!!
