Summary: After a chemical leak at the Hope Centre in Papua New Guinea (an organization devoted to feeding underdeveloped countries) turns its staff into flesh-eating zombies, a four-man commando squad led by Mike London are sent to investigate. They run into a TV news crew led by celebrity reporter Lia, who are after the same story, but when they discover that the entire country has been overrun by zombies, what are the chances of them getting the message across? Unlike most zombie films, this actually tries to make a serious point - that if we don't feed the Third World, they'll come and feed on us!

Rats: Night of Terror is going to be one of the more common responses. Pity about Crazy Guy, he was the only one with a good head on his shoulders.

Stephen Crane

Daddy: The natives are revolting. Lia: I don't know, some of them are nice chaps.

First Draft Theater. Why waste paper?

Of course I'll repeat some of this when you post this on YOUTUBE. I saw this in the theatre ( yes, I paid real money to see this). I think it was titled DAWN OF THE ZOMBIE or something like that, playing at Ronnies 8 Theatre in South Saint Louis County. a SWAT team fighting zombies? I think I've heard that music some where before? Oh ya. This is the Italians doing a total rip off of DAWN OF THE DEAD. Did they have to steal the music, ZOMBI at least came up with their own score and a cool shark vs zombie fight.

A couple good films for you guys to review. BLOOD FROM DRACULA'S CASTLE. Lamest vampires in film history, filmed at a real castle in Arizona. One version has a werewolf, the other version makes the character into a serial killer. You guys have got to see this one. The back story is even more interesting than the movie. The Producer had made several B movies over his career, but he did do one thing with all of them; he raised twice he needed to make the movie and stuck the extra money in his own pocket. But when he got to BFDC he got the money from Mobsters, and they expected a return on their money and they wanted quickly. But the Producer had spent the money had stuck in his pocket when he fell short; he didn't have the money to have the film copied and sent out to theatres and drive-ins. He couldn't go back to the Mobsters and ask for more money, and he couldn't get the movie out to get them their profits. A week after the movie was to come out, the Producer was found in his apartment, sitting in a chair his throat cut; The Police said it was a suicide (???) The other movie was TEENAGERS BATTLE THE THING ( 1958). In the early 70's they added some new footage at the beginning and re-titled THE CURSE OF BIGFOOT; Bigfoot was becoming to become well know in the U.S. so they played into that, added more footage and sold it to TV. Plus they ripped off the music from THE BLOB.

Great review, I actually did go back and re watched this after your review of 'Corona Zombies'. 'The True Story of the Nun of Monza' is worth looking at, as it's also stitched together and the plot doesn't even make sense. Also it's sort based on historic events, although those took place in Perugia, and someone else had already made a better film so he moved it to Monza, I assume, as that is where the Grand Prix is and people outside Italy therefor know it's a real place.

Other films by Bruno Mattei? I only know a couple of his soft sexploitation flics (the Filipinio's I worked with in Saudi in the '80's loved them), The Nun of Monzo and Private House of the SS. Got to say, they're bloody awful. I have Rats: Night of Terror as part of a friends movie collection, but have not yet watched it. Having seen this, I think I'll move it up on my 'to watch' list.

Rats Night of Terror is worth it for how poorly the cute little rats are portrayed as a credible threat, but I'd not recommend it to folks who owned pet rats as this movie cannot claim, "no animals were harmed during the making of this" (Mattei himself claimed in commentary the rats used in the film were guinea pigs? I think he is misremembering). Also the twist ending is a great laugh

Yup - This is definitely a homage (ripoff) of "Dawn of the Dead" (the one from 1978) right down to the music from Goblin (""L'alba Dei Morti Viventi" ). Still, despite the low budget and lack of originality, it's an entertaining watch if you like zombie films.
