I respect your restraint in not ending the review with The Beginning. My favorite death/ kill is probably the unique crossbow kill in Vampire Circus, though the movie itself didn’t grab me.

Stephen Crane

Slightly obvious but the lo-tech approach to the exploding head death in Scanners always impressed me. And grossed me out. Shotgun meets wax head full of dog food.

Two questions: Where did they get the piranhas, and Who the Heck is the Nun?

Anonymous

Christopher Lee is squashed by a radio mast in Bear Island (good) and artificially aged to death in Captain America II (bad). I think that the chest bursting alien in Alien must be the weirdest.

Anonymous

Agree with Colleen, the Alien chest burster has to be in the most creative list. Driller Killer deserves a mention for the guitar-drill, just unplug the blasted thing, problem solved! How about the scene in Tank Girl where the bad guy sucks all the water out of a minion and then drinks it? Did not expect that one... and that was a film with talking kangaroos.

For some reason, they had a tank of Piranhas at the house. The nun is not explained in the context of the film, but we have a behind the scenes story about her in the detractor's commentary.

For creative deaths I'd go with Vincent Price in that film where he plays the hammy actor who kills critics with Biblical plagues. I admired his attention to detail and flair.

Also, I am old and deaf, so I watched this three times but still couldn't understand what the guy was saying: the bit where the bearded Jerk Doc says " I was fourteen the first time..." and then I can't get the rest of the line. What is he saying?

‘I was 14 when I first slopped a mop down the Copperhaven’s cruddy halls’ He started as janitor and worked his way up to own the hospital.

I don't know if he had a career in the UK, but one of the kids was played by Leif Garrett, who was a teen heartthrob in the US in the 1970's. Also, BOSS HOGG, Sorrell Booke, is in this, pre-Dukes of Hazzard.

One of the other kids is Leif's sister who gets to kill Lovely played by their mother.
