God's speed with the Harryhausen special; it's impossible to overestimate his influence. "Sinbad" is a dream that changes everything, for the audience and the filmmaker. This isn't an original thought, but after a drab decade of matinees, the cyclops shows up in the first reel, in broad daylight, in color, backed by Bernard Herrmann and the whole idea of popular entertainment punches the reset button.

Nobody would disagree that the 7th Voyage was a game changer for Harryhausens career. First color animations, first big picture where the effects made a film (apart from Kong) instead of being an adjunct. but Jason is the one everybody talks about when discussing his work. The skeleton attack became a blueprint for so many lesser followers of his work. So possibly he had two peaks? The commercial followed by the technical?

Really looking forward to the special AND Robin getting progressively hairier as LOCKDOWN continues on.

And in a bit of good news, here in Washington the number of hospital cases has decreased, so the lockdown may be having the desired effect. Where will it end? I guess we'll find out.

Thanks for the updates. Am very much enjoying the Lockdown series and look forward to whatever other wonders you cook up in your spare time. I empathize with your feeling like you should be doing something all the time, but you must schedule some down time to avoid burnout. Difficult when reviewing films is your avocation, as you probably are unable to turn off your critical processes when you watch a movie. Stay well.

You're almost quoting the opening I have written. To be in that cinema when the cyclops came on must have been like when King Kong appeared or the rebel ship in Star Wars. rb

Jason is the more complete thing, but he's only able to do that in the wake of Sinbad - Sinbad is the proof of concept that people want this. And even then he struggled because the dreadful European sword and sandal films have watered down that market for years.
