I think Jean Rollin as a director divides people and I haven't seen enough of his films to take a side, but even he didn't like this one. It was taken on very much last minute as he stepped in to replace Jess Franco at a day's notice. The plot could not possibly be any simpler, and much of the movie is padding trying to get it up to the 85 minutes that the story really doesn't require. One thing we can't really show in the review, because it looks like we've edited it, is the way it jumps between night and day randomly; you can see the make up line on the zombie's as only their faces have been made up; and the climax is so obvious that you can't help wondering why no one thought of it before.

Ooh, Jean Rollin! I'm a fan of his. I admit that most of his movies are mixed to some degree (The Nude Vampire has the most hilarious death by gunshot moment I have ever seen), but there's usually at least something interesting in all of them. His 'real' movies are probably not that fitting for the Dark Corners treatment given their slow paces and abstract or simply too basic plots, but his strictly for hire work like Zombie Lake would be good to cover!

One of my least favorite directors... It’s like watching a snail crawl across the grass with him taking several bathroom breaks along the way.
