Another in our series of Shadow requests, and one I'm pretty sure I saw years ago, though I didn't remember much about it. The presence of Peter Cushing of course makes this worth watching, and the presence of Roy Hudd is just bizarre. Cushing apparently considered this his worst film, and he only accepted the role to pay his wife's hospital bills. Still, having seen so much of him recently thanks to our Hammer Frankenstein special, it was nice to see him in another role and to see the differences in his performance - this a far less clipped character than Baron Frankenstein, and one who speaks in a very different way. I find it interesting to see how a great actor like Cushing deals with being cast in similar films, still managing to create distinctive characterisations.

I love the alternate title “The Vampire Beast Craves Blood” If I remember right, the mad doctor openly betrays the moth monster and then decides its safe to turn his back on it.
