When we started this series, the first problem we had was finding the name.  We looked though many film quotes and movie taglines before stumbling upon "Sadismo" which sported the tagline "Actually filmed in the Dark Corners of this Sick World",  not finding anything better we settled on Dark Corners of this Sick World as our show name, later shortened to Dark Corners.

The film itself is one we are unlikely to review.  Released in 1967 it is one of the many exploitation documentaries that followed in the wake of the Mondo Cane (1962) (translated from its Italian to "A Dog's World") , the set up sees the documentary crew travelling the world to expose taboo topics of sex, death and torture; animal cruelty would often be featured  (Sadismo features Chinese businessmen celebrating a deal by eating monkey brains fresh out the skull).  Basically a way of showing boobs and violence under the banner of a documentary rather than what it really was.

Although filmmakers claimed to be documenting reality, many of the scenes were staged.  By the late 60s the popularity of genre had died off, but returned in the 80s with the controversial "Faces of Death" featuring many real scenes of people being murdered and executed.

Cannibal Holocaust features a documentary crew making a Mondo style film,  the result of which was so shocking that the director was charged with murder. This was compounded by the fact the actors' contracts said they could not appear in front of the media for a year in order to promote the myth it was really found footage.
