I watched this only because I got the title confused with a Lon Chaney Jr. film (The Electric Man) but it turned out being worth watching from a DC perspective. I think this poster perfectly encapsulates the problem that the filmmakers, and particularly the marketing people, had. 'Cosmic Frankenstein' is an eye-catching phrase but there's nothing to do with space or anything remotely Frankensteiny, while the blurb down the side all backs up the title with its talk of 'invisible mouths and a 'thing that came alive'. I've got to think that anyone going to see this movie based on the poster would do so expecting a monster. Well guess what; there isn't one. They didn't know what to do with this film and that isn't just a problem with the poster.

You’ve stumbled on a remarkable hybrid: the “Dragnet” sort of procedural material leading up to the use of all that footage from the 1934 German film “Gold” which takes up the bulk of the last two reels and requires Richard Carlson to start wearing that cap so he matches his stock footage counterpart.

It's definitely an interesting one. Doesn't quite come off but a worthy effort. I didn't notice the hat, it's more blatant in Monster from Green Hell when a pair of 20th century scientists have to dress like Victorian explorers to match footage from Stanley and Livingstone.

It seems to have been made with the best intentions. Plus you’ve got King Donovan with pipe and glasses. It was that or have him wear a sign saying “I’m a Scientist, damn it.”

This was still one the Cold War movies of the 50's ; fear of nuclear weapons, atomic power and radiation. I did like that they reversed it making the power of creation the threat rather then the release of energy . This movie was to be the start of a series for either movies or television but it never materialized. It did seen to be the first " invisible " menace type of film that we would see a lot more of in the 70's and beyond. It was a change of pace from the alien invaders , atomic monsters and mad scientists we saw in the 50's.
