I'm gonna try opening up for a custom character this weekend. Meaning that I will not require a visual reference, and I'll be working with you to create something new!

Depending on interest, I might try an auction, but since I know it's the beginning of a new month that might not be the best idea. There are pros and cons to doing an auction and flat rate.

What do you prefer?

On the one hand, flat rate would mean I'd just charge for my time, so it's probably be about $300 for a custom. The downside is that it usually comes down to the fastest person to claim gets the slot, and most people won't get a chance. That's usually where it's an impulse buy, and the person may not know what they want (which makes my job harder).

On the other hand, an auction gives more people a chance to see and place a bid, but the price tends to get jacked up pretty quick. Would a ladder auction be a good solution? The higher the bid, the more you get? For example, if bidding hits (X) amount you get an additional back view and preg alt. Or smth.

The auction would probably be best. Announcing it now gives people time to get an idea of what they want, as well as giving you time to organize your schedule so you can properly deliver. And you can also do both an auction and an insta-buy. My recommendation for that is to offer a higher price for the insta-buy, the 300 would certainly be a good start. As for starting bid for an auction, 150 is a good place to start for that, especially with how popular your stuff is. I can definitely see an auction going up to 500 or more lol

I probably wouldn't be able to participate due to my income, but the auction is definitely the better idea, I think. it gives more people a chance to participate and should help to augment your income better. its getting to be cold season so oil and electricity prices are about to get higher. We need to take care of our artists and keep them warm!
