Of all time..
And briefly, why?

Still trying to figure out if this is the best platform to be asking these typa' questions. Apparently it's popular to not play games in the discord.

For me;

KOTOR2
Never had a game make me question my motives before. Incredibly written dialogue, allies, choices and consequences. Kreya.

mAss Effect
Like Donkey Kong Country 2 but in space. Meaningful alien relationship simulator. Loved the ominous story pre-collectors.

Fable
Aesthetically perfect. Fun broken spells and open world sandbox. In-game Notoriety. Ai just smart enough.

RUNNER-UPS & non quite RPGs ;
Phantasy Star Online
Persona 5
Bloodborne
Chrono Trigger.
Hitman: Blood Money
Perfect Dark
Metal Gear Solid V
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Resident Evil
StarCraft
Diablo II
WarCraft 3 (rip)

Ok this list is getting long. But certainly clocked 1000+ hours MINIMUM in each of these.

Nier and Nier automata: Both have incredible music and story while the latter having excellent gameplay. The complex, believable characters and the fresher takes on certain existential topics were a unique experience. A big theme in Nier was the matter of perspective that had you question yours and the characters morals and maybe not agreeing with them once certain information is gleaned on subsequent playthroughs. Bloodborne: First dip into the souls series that left a unique impression gameplay an story wise.

Borderlands 2 I know it's more of a FPS but still got many RPG elements. I think you can learn the most from this game, not because of any story or gameplay elements but because the creators certainly loved what they were doing. You can basically feel the fun gearbox had with this game and that is the most important thing about creating something. Love what you're about to create and people will love it too. I hope that was your question though... otherwise: the first fable, mass effect and most tell tale games.

Monster Hunter series: I just love the grinding aspect of these games and the sense of progression I felt whenever I made better gear. As I continued to play I became a better player myself and have always enjoyed playing these games with my friends. God Eater series: Pretty much the same as my Monster Hunter explanation, but I really enjoy the story that God Eater presents itself with along with a badass soundtrack. Phantasy Star Online 2: My main game that I play everyday, the story and gameplay always keeps me coming back along with the countless amount of fashion available.
