"The world is a dark place." The characters who say this are describing their own views of the world based on their experiences; both Stan and Elizabeth have seen and done things that keep them in this dark place. It helps us to understand their motives better, but we also hold out hope that they'll find a way to a "lighter" place. Again, we find ourselves rooting for people who torture and murder others, and we actually care what happens to them. Along those lines ... Kevin, I would love to rewatch "The Sopranos" while you watch it for the first time. And Joe, I think you should watch it with him. I trust you would be able to avoid spoilers, and you could answer any of Kevin's questions that come up. And it's an amazing show that's even better the second or third time watching it.
